Thanks for sharing Jean. I'll definitely be a regular reader of your blog.

This book also has a lot of examples of flourishing. You can take the different examples and add them to whatever letter you want.

If you can find this one at a reasonable price . . .Calligraphic Flourishing by Bill Hildebrandt

I just love this book. It is mostly flourishing with a broad edge pen but all of the principles are very applicable to pointed pen as well. He does have quite a few examples with pointed pen including a few by Michael Sull, Jean Larcher, and Raphael Boguslav. He also has a very detailed chapter on Cadel flourishes.

The cheapest copy at Amazon right now is $69 but you may be able to find copies through Abe Books, Bookfinder, etc. I lucked out and found a copy at my local Half Price Books for $8.

Connie's flourishing course really helped me understand the fundamentals and create new flourishes. She just started offering an online course on flourishing:

Thanks for this tomcalligrpahy! I've bookmarked this class for next time I've got a little extra cash to spend on classes! It's sounds incredibly useful.

At the nibs and ink blog, be sure to go to the Labels on the right side, and click on [flourishing]
Then, you have to scroll down and start with the first post, at the bottom.
There are lots of tips  - but I will mention the one that I think is the most important....
Don't try to learn all of them at once.
There is a fluidity to flourishing that only comes with practice and spending time making the motions with your whole arm
and not just wiggling your fingers.
Making tight little corkscrews or pigtails are  OK if you want a very quirky, naive style. But, if your goal is to have flourishing that is elegant, you will do better with larger, loopy, ovals that compliment the ovals and angles in the particular style you are writing.

I have about 50 more exemplars to post ....and hope to get them posted one of these days.....
I will post to the forum when I get around to it.

Please do Jean!!!! Love your sight
