Zentangle-ing for Beginners
« on: January 20, 2014, 09:10:36 AM »
I haven't heard of Zentangles before... but they look so fun and whimsical - does anyone have suggestions for getting started "tangling"? I'd love to know more about it, especially how it's used in relation to meditation?

Hi Karen,
Hooray! A zentangle newbie! I am surprised more members aren't zentangle fans. Zentangles are really fun and were created by Maria Thomas and her partner Rick Roberts. Maria is the calligrapher who inspired me to learn pointed pen calligraphy.

It is meditative in its own practice. I have a theory about why but it is very heavy and definitely goes off topic!  :D

In any event, there are many wonderful resources now available.

Zentangle.com

Zenspirations I think Joanne's sight is SO inspirational!

There are also a ton of books and great classes available by CZTs (Certified Zentangle Teachers).

I have one of Joanne's books linked on the home page for the forum. I'll add some of the other ones I have enjoyed!

Have fun! I worn you though - it is as addicting as Calligraphy!  :D
Warm Regards,
Erica

Erica,

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! These references are fantastic, I am definitely going to have to give it a try :)

I would love to hear your theory on Zentangles as a meditative practice sometime :) Maybe under a different topic though I guess?

Thanks again,
Karen

I don't know which side of town you are on, but I was thinking about taking one of these classes. I bought a couple zentangle books a while ago, but I understand it is better to actually take a class from a CZT teacher.

Awesome!!! Thanks so much for the info Tami!

I'm actually about an hour or so from Nashville - but I am definitely going to look into one of these classes. I might not be able to swing it until this summer... but it looks like she offers basic classes fairly regularly :)

Thanks again!
