Spencerian Script / Friend Emma Letter
« on: July 08, 2017, 08:40:41 AM »
This letter was written by my great grandfather in 1890. Does this look like Spencerian? It was so much fun to look through old documents and letters while at my parents' house in NH last weekend, especially now that I have an interest in calligraphy.

Introductions / Greetings from Atlanta
« on: May 03, 2017, 08:07:06 PM »
Hello, Calligrafriends! I'm Sally Ellington. I have always loved handwriting. I remember my handwriting teacher visiting our small country grade school to teach our lesson; she always wrote something really "fancy" on the chalk board, and I was in awe. I loved to practice my lessons and make up my own style of writing as well.

I then learned Italic handwriting as my children were learning the Inga Dubay style of lettering. I learned Engrosser's script through Joe Vilolo's videos, because my oldest daughter wanted hand-written wedding invitations and envelopes. I lettered envelopes for a couple more weddings, but didn't really do a whole lot with calligraphy until recently. I found The Postman's Knock website in a search for something calligraphy related. I ordered a modern calligraphy kit, and had a blast.

Last month, I took a watercolor class with Phyllis Macaluso! I started an Instagram page to post my work, and in the process fell back in love with calligraphy, watercolor florals, and the calligraphy family. What a wonderfully supportive group of friends! https://www.instagram.com/bill.and.edie.design/

I feel blessed to be a part of this community. Thank you for the opportunity.
