Wow. What a lovely artifact  ;) I enjoy seeing these old pens and wish we could see more of them. Nice job with the photographs, too.

Thanks for sharing this.

An amazing mechanical work from 240 years ago  :o Thanks for sharing this little marvel.

Thank you for sharing the link to this encyclopedia. I love the lettering plates, but there is so much more to explore. Hmm...laundry and sweeping will just have to wait their turn  ::)

How interesting. I love a mystery like this. This is a perfect little self-indulgent research I can do on these cold, rainy days.

Thanks for sharing this Star. This will be a entertaining respite from lettering practice  ;)

Greetings and welcome. I, too, am retired and have taken up hobbies I could not devote time to while working. Copperplate calligraphy is one of them.

I am left-handed and use a straight pen. It is more comfortable for me. I also have a copy of Eleanor Winter's book, but based on recommendations here, I also have a copy of Dick Jackson's 'Copperplate Calligraphy'. The styles are different and I personally prefer Mr. Jackson's with no disrespect to Ms. Winter.

If you have a chance, another great book is 'The Universal Penman'. This is NOT an instructional book, but provides many good lettering examples to study that were engraved by George Bickham.

Enjoy!

Still new in the relationship, Copperplate is my favorite snuggle bunny, but I have been taking glances at Illuminated lettering  ::)

Very cool Steve, and a generous offering to the community.

I also enjoyed your spiral work of the poem from 'The Hobbit'. This is great work.

Happy Holidays,
