I'm twice as old as Natasha was when she started this post. How did this happen?
I was in first grade just a few years ago …  :o

I'm 80 years old.

Having read through this entire, fascinating thread, it occurs to me that I may hold the dubious distinction of being the oldest contributor still working full-time as a calligrapher.

@Ken Fraser
It's encouraging to us youngsters (I'll be 69 this year) that you are still doing such fine work at eighty. It's rare, but not unprecedented. Here's a Christmas card Henry D. Allison of Dublin, NH, wrote to his school in 1949 when he was eighty. Still good work. Not sure if he wrote well 'till the day he died, but he did live another 14 years. Keep on writing, Ken.

Next month I'll be 82 and I'm still working as a full-time calligrapher.

Do I hold the record,

Lovely Ken! I sure hope I can maintain as steady a hand as you. She may not be full time but you are in good company. Marian Gault reached 100 this year. She was scheduled to teach at IAMPETH in Atlanta this year but it was canceled.
I took her Gothacized Italic class a few years ago. Great class!

But yes - you very well could hold the record!  ;D

Thanks,

I think that we are blessed insofar as our interest/hobby/employment isn't physical, and provided our hand stays steady there is no age limit! ;D

I guess every old name is new again!  My grandmother's name was Sophia (spelled Zofia)  and that was all the rage for awhile, or different variations of it (Sofia, Sophia, etc.).  Not sure if it is still as popular.

So true. Oh yes, Sophia is popular! It's been in the Top 10 for years now. (It may even be #1.) My daughter is a Sophia. I researched it and knew it was poised to be big, but I was ahead of the curve, and we call her Sophie. My other daughter is Charlotte -- also a 'grandma' name. But we have run into several even younger than my daughter.

For some reason I love names. I researched them to death before I picked my daughters.  :)

(And my name screams "Child of the '60s!")

I love the old name made new trend. My girls have "grandma" names, though it doesn't sound as flattering when described that way, ha! They are named Lucy and Norah. And I know many who have named their daughters similar types of names; Eloise, Vivian, Evelyn, Emma, Rosalie, etc.

Your name is also a Child of the '80s name! I know three people named Lori, all spelled differently. One Lauri, one Loree and one Lori, all born in the '80s.

Speaking of "grandma" names - my first name is Marjorie (but I go by my middle name) & I am named after my grandma!

I'll be 26 in a week :) And @Ken Fraser you are an inspiration!

Hello,

I'm 62. I feel like a 30 year old, but my wife said that I couldn't keep up with a 30 year old.
I'm not going to repeat what I said to that, only to mention that she heard me, and I'm still trying to remove the rolling pin. ;)  ;D

Laughter is definitely the best medicine, but Wolves destroying WBA runs laughter close, and the Yankees winning the World Series is ................ laughter is the best medicine, remember?

Born in London 1941.  Bombs etc dropping on a regular basis keeping me awake and everything was rationed   I didn`t mind any of that.  What I did hate is that my Mum thought it would be fun to give me the middle name Winston (you know... after the great Mr Churchill) It caused me endless misery in my school years, a bit like 'A boy called Sue'.
Enjoying my life now with my wife of 58 years.
Started calligraphy a couple of weeks ago. Hoping to manage some reasonable scribbles before before I have to hang up my pen.  ;D ;D

Cheers

I adore the name Winston! My father’s middle name was Lethbridge - a family name his father gave him (from Devon). He didn’t like it but I always thought it was quite charming!  :)
