Look what I found
« on: September 13, 2015, 06:47:06 PM »
I like to browse Good Will stores here in America for Calligraphy books or supplies. You can always get a good deal. I finished looking at the books and did not find anything. So I went over to the  portrait section that has paintings and such. I see some really nice script so I picked it up and looked at it. It was very beautiful. I turned it over and it read Calligraphy by John Decollibus Jr. I was ecstatic to say the least! I paid $1.57 frame and all. So happy.

Brad, that is an awesome find!  I love Goodwill for the books.  Now I will look at the portraits too.
Cheers, Michael

That is so unique! I've never thought to look for those types of things at Goodwill.

Such a find! But also a little sad that something so beautiful was worth so little. At least it is in the hands of someone who will appreciate it!

Such a find! But also a little sad that something so beautiful was worth so little. At least it is in the hands of someone who will appreciate it!

I'm sure it was from an estate. I'm at an age where we're seeing more and more older relatives pass away, and we've had to help dispose of several estates in recent years. It's amazing how quickly and cheaply so many things are disposed of because those inheriting them just have no idea of what it is, or its value.

My wife and I were married for a while before we had our son and did a fair amount of travel and shopping.  ;D

We try to find ways to let our son know about all of the cool stuff we have and where it came from. But, in the end, as long as it's not thrown away outright, I'm sure that it all, just as Brad's new calligraphy shows, will eventually find a home with someone who appreciates it. So, even if the child or grandchild who gave that away to Goodwill didn't really appreciate it (and probably had no idea that it was hand-drawn rather than just printed), it has eventually been found and will be greatly appreciated, I'm sure, in its new home.

So sad it ended up in a Goodwill store.  I would think it would have been an heirloom.

For those who were wondering Mr. John DeCollibus finally got back with me. He said the Parent print is 25 years old. He was not to surprised I came across it. He always gets calls from people to reproduce prints they see in the store, home or business. He loves getting these. His print portion of his business  has been closed for years. So I am very thankful to have it even so. Also to not these were done before he was a Master Penman, 2001.
