Newby hello
« on: July 15, 2016, 08:26:39 AM »
Hi everyone, thought I'd introduce myself !
Apologies if it's a bit dull, haven't used a forum for years lol.
I'm 38 and have, on and off over the years, attempted to learn calligraphy in some form or another. I'm entirely self taught - but not for lack of trying to find classes in my area.
Lately I've been learning copperplate. I LOVE copperplate! To me it's the most beautiful of fonts and I am desperate trying to master the different thicknesses of the lines.

I have an Instagram and a tumbler account, I've only just started with these so they're a little empty still, all under the name Carriligraphy.

I look forward to joining in with discussions and learning lots

Welcome to the forum! I started with learning copperplate too and found it really useful to post work in the Kind Critique board. := :) I think a lot of the calligraphy enthusiasts here are self taught so it's pretty normal on the forum.

Welcome to the Forum,
This is the perfect place to learn.  Take a look at the pointed pen nirvana section with Erica's tutorials.  The people on here range from beginners to master pen-persons.  And all of them are wonderful in giving advice and help.

Just make sure you post your practise in the Kind Critique sections.  You will get great feedback on what to focus on and practise.

Happy writing

Hello Newby :D,

Welcome to Flourish Forum. And i agree that copperplate is truly fantastic and its kind of addictive once you start to get a hang of it.
As Prasad mentioned have a look at Erica's tutorials as they have helped me tremendously. Thanks Prasad for that long mail.
So waiting to see your drills and work.

Hi @carriligraphy Welcome.

I think you'll like it here. I struggle to find classes near me too but my writing has improved LOADS since being here! I also love how copperplate looks and it is the first style I'm learning.

Looking forward to seeing you around :) (followed your Instagram ;) )

Hi @carriligraphy,

Good to see you practice. Im also quite new to this forum and the pointed pen art.
I started randomly and then i decided i will focus on Engrossers script as that is what i liked.
As i started posting my work in 'Kind Critique' section got very valuable advice from the masters in this art
and that help me tremendously. Previously i randomly used to write and now i have proper technique and method in place
Thanks to @SMK, @jeanwilson, @prasad, @Erica McPhee @evjo. You should also visit the 'Pointed pen Nirvana' section for tutorials form Erica.

So the earlier you post your work the better as you will get feedback and direction from the seniors here. And they all are very eager to help anyone who is wanting to learn. Saw your posts on Instagram and they are really nice. You have a good hand and you can really pick things up.
As you rightly posted on Instagram, 'Practice makes Perfect'

Waiting to see your drills and worksheets.
