G'day from Australia
« on: July 20, 2016, 06:41:00 AM »
Hi everyone!

My name is Tegan and I'm from Western Australia.  I've just recently taken up calligraphy again after taking a break for several years while studying. Initially I took up the art as a way of improving my handwriting after being in awe of my grandfather's gorgeous handwritten documents (from back in the day where nib and ink were commonplace). I'm still mainly focused on copperplate script at the moment, although I'm also looking forward to teaching myself many other styles.

One of the main reasons I wanted to join this forum was to hopefully find other people interested in calligraphy and penmanship who might like to exchange letters by post, or even scanned images by email! I'm always on the look-out for thoughts and critiques on my practice. If you're interested in a pen-pal from Australia, please let me know! ;D

Cheers!
Tegan

Hi Tegan,
What a lovely name! We have a penpal board where you could connect with other members so you may want to post in there, too. We will also be posting another exchange shortly.

Things are a bit slower in the summer months so it may take some time before others respond.
Welcome to Flourish!  ;D

Welcome, Tegan! I'd be up for a new international pen pal!  I seem to like to spend a lot of money on postage- and I have so much of it- so why not? ;)  PM me if you'd like.

Cheers,

Oh hey! Another Aussie. A few of us on here now.

I'm interested in penpals. I have a few so it might take a while to get back and forth but I'm keen. Also studying the same style.

Thank you.
I'm still working my way through many of the posts on this board - So much information! It's great!

Oh and thank you Erica, my parents first heard the name while watching Dr. Who - Tegan was one of his companions. They liked the name so much they gave it to me  :D .

Thanks Ashok, I'll definitely post something in the kind critique thread, and yes I've been learning many new things reading through the threads on the forum.  :)

Hi Tegan, welcome!

The penpal section is great. There are a few threads going atm. Nothing like receiving a letter in the mail now that snapchat, facebook and twitter pm's have taken over everything!

Hi @Karen Gray

So true about the receiving letters in this digital age. I think we all should do this more often.
Any ideas?

This post is great actually. http://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=3472.0
Like a nice big chain of lettery writing goodness ;) I've had one from here and one from conversation. Plus I caught the bug so I have written to everyone whose address I have! haha! My mum was chuffed to bits when she got her letter (I didn't tell her) Been writing to author friends too. Hoping to start a creative writing letter group if I can (at least within my author pal circles) Worth a go isn't it? and it will help deepen characterisation ;)
