Copperplate adventures
« on: February 09, 2022, 09:25:41 PM »
I am just getting started on this path after getting into fountain pens and journaling for my mental health in 2016... I am waiting on my Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy book... I already have the second book ( Copperplate/italics ) it came early... Also waiting on dinky dips and gum arabic so I can adjust my inks as needed...

It’s a great book to get started - breaks it down very well. Enjoy the process!  :)

I'm getting back into learning Copperplate.  I also have Eleanor Winters "Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy", but would recommend two other great books: "The Technique of Copperplate Calligraphy" by Gordon Turner and "Copperplate Calligraphy" by Dick Jackson.

Joe Vitolo's eBook is excellent.
It is free - for Mac users - and if you are PC - all the material is still available for free -
If you are PC and can't find that option, let me know and I'll figure it out.

The advantage of Joe's book is that he has videos of everything - all for free.

The book appears to be only downloadable on an iPad and not on the iMac unfortunately. Am I right?

I'm on a PC and had trouble downloading the PDF with links to his videos.  I remember contacting him and he gave me a link that worked with PC.  Here's the link to his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/arcangel6/videos  To view the Copperplate lessons scroll to the bottom of the videos page.

I know I have downloaded Joe's book on a desktop Mac  -
It would be worth contacting him to figure out a way to get it.
He's very committed to helping people.
Over the weekend would probably be a good time to contact him -
as he is still working.

"Copperplate Calligraphy" is by far the best of these books IMO

Joe Vitolo's ebook is indeed excellent as are all of his writings. However for beginners it should be pointed out that the drawn American Engrossers Script which is sometime referred to in America as Copperplate, is quite different in various respects from the original written Copperplate  (English Roundhand).

Joe Vitolo does make a distinction between copperplate and engrossers script.
It's his personal perspective - so, might be different from how other people see it.
I am aware that there are other opinions that differ.
