Open/Active Exchanges / Re: Iridescence Exchanges - So Well Done!
« on: July 26, 2021, 08:56:37 AM »
Just got back from vacation and I can't wait to open all of these beautiful envelopes. I agree with Michael--this was a very fun and inspiring topic.

Thanks for sharing and organizing, Erica! These FF exchanges are still my most favorite way to practice after all these years. <3

This is a nice trick, Elissa. Thanks for sharing it!

I keep thinking that the more I do centering, the better I'll get at it and it will come naturally. That is definitely not true!

That's an F, duuuuh! Ha, this was fun, Mike! It really is a cool though offbeat style of writing.

You have great control on the flourishes too -- confident and elegant. Thanks for sharing!

Just a gentle reminder: there are 6 days left to register for Michael Sull's Spencerian Saga on Zoom.

Michael shared on Instagram that he'll be teaching some new Spencerian and Ornamental Penmanship techniques and methods.

We've had a wonderful response and the course has over 200 students from 29 countries. Although the class is large, there is a Slack forum for classmates to share and discuss work and mingle on a more one-on-one level. Hope you'll join us.

I have no clue. It's so cool and abstract.

I keep seeing "Spinach" as the last name, but I know that's not right. ;D

Oh wow, this is cool. I had no idea they did this kind of engraving on vintage firearms. Thanks for sharing, Jean!

The Washington Calligraphers Guild is very excited to host Michael Sull's first-ever Spencerian Saga on Zoom.

The Zoom webinar will take place on four Wednesday evenings, starting June 2 through 23 from 7:30-9:30 EDT.

You do not have to be a WCG member to sign up. Registration is $140 USD.

If you cannot attend live, that's totally fine. The Webinar will be recorded and you will have access to the recordings between classes and for an additional month through July 22. We also plan to have a Slack forum for students to share their practice and stay motivated between class sessions. Even if you cannot attend the webinar live, you'll still have a chance to interact and engage in real time with your classmates.

The class is listed as intermediate to advanced, but I encourage anyone who is interested in Michael Sull's work, Spencerian, flourishing and ornamental penmanship to sign up. You'll learn about the history of Spencerian and ornamental penmanship, get fantastic handouts from Michael, and have access to the class recordings for rewatching.

For those who dreamed of learning with Michael at IAMPETH but couldn't, this is the opportunity for you. Wherever you are in the world, come join us.

More details and registration link can be found here:

If you have questions, feel free to ask me here or send an email to [email protected].

Thanks for reading and hope to see you there!
Janice (WCG Registrar)

Whaaaaaat, wow, that is so cool! And you know what, I just smelled it and there was the faintest scent of eucalyptus.

And of course, my husband walked in the moment I had your letter up to my nose, haha! Thanks, Alba! That's a treat!

@Inked botanicals Alba, yay! I got your beautiful letter. Love that quote. I'm adding it to my book of quotes to letter. And how cute is that leaf postage stamp. I wish our postal service was a bit more experimental with its stamps!

This is so lovely, Erica. I especially love the subtle watercolor choices, but that pop of pink is perfect: not only as the color of breast cancer awareness but it just lifts the whole piece with hope and positivity.

Oh Alba! Yes, I'm missing yours, Gloria's and Jennifer's, but I figured with international post. It was going to happen.

Let me know if you didn't receive mine. Happy to share a photo... sadly, I spent so much time on it, I wouldn't be able to recreate it easily.  :(

Nice to hear that others are in a similar situation. 2 of my 3 are international--it goes without saying that those would be delayed. Ah well! Just hope nothing is lost!

Just curious if anyone continues to have trouble receiving letters from this exchange. From my list, I received Wendy and Barbara's letters (thank you!). Is it just around DC or are others experiencing this as well?

List 3 folks, apologies for my late exchange. With the snowstorm the other day, I dropped my letters at the post yesterday morning. Hoping they get to you at least before Christmas. Thank you for your patience!
