This is fun!

I must have been really good this year because hubs gave me a Huion L4S Lightpad, and little bro gave me an Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner!

…and I got myself some gouache and nibs.  ;D

Tools & Supplies / Re: Huion A4 Lightpad review

I'm also curious about the difference between this model:
http://www.amazon.com/Huion-Ultra-thin-ADJUSTABLE-Illumination-Lifetime/dp/B00J0UUHPO/ref=sr_1_3?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1418572843&sr=1-3&keywords=huion+light+pad
and this model:
http://www.amazon.com/Huion-Inches-Artcraft-Tracing-Light/dp/B00J3NRAV2/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1418572843&sr=1-1&keywords=huion+light+pad
The size for the first is 17.72 inches and the second is listed as 17.7 inches. Price difference of just under $10. Can someone shed some light on these/tell me what I'm missing? There's got to be more of a difference here, I'm guessing.

My husband purchased from the seller on the first link you posted.  I'm slightly wary of the second link because there are some grammar/spelling errors.  I can verify that the first link gives you an excellent product, only because hubs is a wonderfully generous gift giver and let me have my light pad early.  I will say...he got it for $36.60.  I'd keep watching the price - apparently, it can vary greatly.  It's also interesting to me that one of the sellers is "Huion" and the other is "HUION."  I am suspicious of the HUION under link #2...do some investigating and make sure the seller is legit before you purchase - you could be getting a false product.

As for the light pad itself...the Huion L4S is great!  I'm completely obsessed and echo all of the positive reviews that have been posted to this thread.

Hope all goes well!

Elizabeth - Seems like hand canceling might not be worth it? (What do others think?) - a quick search of the internet shows many stories like yours even though the USPS website says that you can ask for your mail to be hand cancelled ("where available"). I read that since mail goes through so many different checkpoints, there's no guarantee that it won't go through some other automated checkpoint somewhere down the line, even if it is hand cancelled at the beginning. At my post office some workers are not that friendly, they are always super short-staffed and with very long lines, so I would be afraid to even ask!

I think you might be on to something - my invitations went to all sorts of random places across the US and a few never made it to their destinations.  Plus, the hand-canceling stamp isn't really that cute anyway!  Hindsight is 20/20, for sure.  ;D

I hate that I lost that 30 minutes but I will say, to USPS's credit, the guy was really nice to me about it and talked to me the entire time between customers.

Oh USPS...when I sent my wedding invitations out in June, I really wanted them to be hand canceled.  I was told that it took too long to hand cancel that many, and they didn't have time.  Plausible.  I had around 110 envelopes to send out.  I asked if there was anything I could do and was told I could hand cancel them myself.  So, I did.  It took 30 minutes because the hand cancel stamp had almost zero ink on it, and I had to re-ink between each one.

And then.  They sent them through the sorter (cancel machine thing?) anyway.  >:(

Grr.

Introductions / Hi from Charlotte, NC!
« on: December 19, 2014, 02:06:40 PM »
Hi All!

I'm Elizabeth Oxenfeld from Charlotte, NC and I've been practicing with lettering since January-ish of this year.  I wanted to address my invitations with a simple style of copperplate calligraphy for my wedding in June...that didn't happen.  I ended up writing them all in print.  BUT, I'm still pretty obsessed with calligraphy and have been working to get better ever since.

My first "real" job is coming up pretty quickly - I'm addressing envelopes for a friend's wedding (another June bride!).  Right now I'm working on developing a style of my own - I'm still just an imitator.  And, I'm crossing my fingers that Santa will put a flatbed scanner under the tree this year.  ;D

I joined the forum because I'm especially interested in the "Kind Critique" board and am very much looking forward to being able to search through topics without having to put in the verification every time, seeing other's attachments, and looking through the tutorials.

I typically use the Zebra G nib, an oblique holder (I think it's a Ziller?), and Higgins Eternal.  I was using FW inks for a while, but for some reason my letters always looked bottom heavy...I thought it was user error for sure, but when I switched to Higgins the problem went away.  I'm hoping that the Higgins doesn't bleed on the envelopes that I will be addressing (I haven't seen them yet)...but if it does, I'm sure the answer is just a click away!

Thanks Flourish Forum!
