Show & Tell / Re: Bleed proof white.

This is absolutely gorgeous Sarah. Your calligraphy with the white on blue is a beautiful combo. Was this done directly on the image?

Welcome and Congratulations on your engagement!
I wish I could help you with info on that particular nib, but I barely can get mine to work    :-[  I am certain someone will be able to direct you though. This is a fabulous and extremely helpful community. Happy you are with us!

Thank you guys for taking the time out to help. I know it seems kind of like a silly detail, but I felt like I was taking a step back at times, or spending too much time troubleshooting instead of practicing.  I did another test run this afternoon and tried to keep variables to a minimum. Each side to side photo is front/back and was done on 3 separate sheets. I cleaned the nib each time and wiped off as much excess as I could each time I dipped. The paper position was about the same, and the guide was at a 55 degree slant (my slant is inconsistent, I know).

@AnasaziWrites I am glad to know that the differences are common. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me; I hadn't even thought about how air moisture content could affect the ink and nibs.

@handmadeletters If you do happen to do a test at some point, please let me know how it turns out. Thank you for your help and advice!

Tools & Supplies / Front vs Back of Canson Pro Layout Marker Paper
« on: March 19, 2017, 09:55:31 AM »
I thought I was going nuts this past week. I bought some walnut ink and have had trouble getting the consistency right. One day it was amazing, the next my hairlines weren't as good as the day before. I tend to use the front and back of the Canson paper and am using Leonardt Principal. This morning I was getting frustrated with how my ink was acting again because I thought I had gotten it figured out yesterday. As I fiddled with the paper, ink and nibs again, I noticed that the hairlines on one side was awesome, the other side was fine but not as good. Am I crazy here (don't answer that), or does the BACK of Canson Pro Layout Paper work better than the front? I have attached photos below. Anyone else run into this? And am I overthinking how "hairy" hairlines are supposed to be? Thanks for any input!

I second @JohnNealBooks with the Ink Cage. I haven't done a ton of flourishing, but my Nikko G ink cage was fantastic for drills. I'm not sure how it is on the Leonardt as far as hairlines and such, but if you are just looking to do the motions and not so worried about thin/thickness, Ink Cage would be a good way to go.
