Coffee & Nib-bles / Re: Old practice sheets - what do you do?
« on: April 06, 2017, 06:28:16 AM »
Rolled paper baskets, quilling, paper weaving (see Pinterest for tutorials ) If you have the time, anyway. It's pretty tedious but would look stellar with bits of calligraphy showing. Thank you for mentioning this because I have the same pile going on and it was destined for the recycle bin.

Hi Salman,

I really appreciate you putting this tutorial together and taking the time to critique.

In this particular practice, I am most focused on the bottom turn stroke, but I am seeing that my slant is inconsistent, along with the square offs and shading.

I appreciate any feedback!

Thank you!

Zentangles / Latest obsession
« on: April 05, 2017, 06:36:15 AM »
Yes, I know I should be using my time to practice calligraphy but playing around with mandalas and zentangle is a little addicting. Does it count if I am using a dippen to draw these?  ???

I'm not sure if I'm liking the gold on the third one. Usually I think it would be a great combination, but I'm wondering if I should have kept it all white, especially with the green background. The second has too many elements going on in it, but was fun to draw!

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for looking  :)

@handmadeletters I really appreciate you doing this, Janice!  I see a difference in yours, too. I wonder if I have mine backwards now.

Well Yvonne, you must be crazy...
Noooo, just kidding  ;)
I have that paper too, but only used the front side.
I will test the back tomorrow, and let you know if I see or notice a difference!
@Simone Lettering you weren't supposed to answer that  :P Thank you for checking!

I've noticed a difference in the sides too. Often, I can't even use the back side because the ink skips/doesn't stick for me, like there's oil on the back on the entire page, depends on the ink though. I love the front side but have been using this paper less because I don't like not being able to use up both sides for practice.
@Raayynuh Thanks for responding. Well, at least there's a known inconsistency. I have only used sumi, and now walnut, and haven't run into that particular issue yet. I love this paper and it's my go-to when the HP Laser/walnut ink combo isn't cooperating, which was all last week.

Well, that was just it...I thought it had been digitized- but now that I look closer and am on my computer, I see the background behind the image. It's actually a great photo.
