I am trying to avoid the writer's finger that I saw on youtube Connie Chen channel.  How's this home action triangle grip?

Pairing it down.

Poorly staged.

I need an ink well, not one but two.  Do you prefer an ink bottle or an ornate inkwell?  Pictures of your inkwells?

Tools & Supplies / Teasing new nibs.
« on: September 19, 2017, 04:56:09 PM »
When we are shopping for new nibs, we are often being teased with the welcome of a new experience and having super power over our hands to do the impossible swells, shades, and flourishes.

Often it is a disappointment, and we settled to doing ovals with the nibs we already have.  So what I really wanted to know is, besides the ovals...what phrase or sentence or flourish do you do to say...this is my holy grail pen.

As I understand, every hand is different, and should the test be different?

I know you all have done this countless times and you should, according to a Dentist!

A PDF to illustrate for the novice pointed pen enthusiast what a properly inked pointed flexible nib should look like:

Open Flourish | General Discussion / One Arm Two Arms...
« on: June 21, 2017, 08:30:20 PM »
This subject have been beaten many time.  Thanks to Alexander I have moved on to the next stage of improvements.

Thanks @Rednaxela.

I think it is necessary to stress the fact that your posture and sitting position is ULTRA important.

1.  FB Courtney always order a dinning table from Sears each time he settle down on a job.  As Alexander suggested.  It's just the right height to do your stuff and plenty of spaces.
2.  Follow the manual on placement of your left and right arms.  Use finger glide and your elbow just off the table's edge.  This is the pivoting points for all pull/pull, etc.
In one manual, it is suggested to dress so that the arm extends and retracts against your jacket's sleeves.  Really cool stuff!  This gave me an idea to put a post-it note on my forearm where it meets the table .. free to glide!
3.  Posture is everything.  Right posture will prevent pain!  YEAH!  You heard me P.A.I.N!

Pain from failure.
Pain from physical fatigue.
Pain from mental dissatisfactions.

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Refinement
« on: June 08, 2017, 08:29:19 PM »
How does one start the process of refinement?

I am happy with my (Chancery Cursive) Italic form....and I still feel that I need to make it better.
I have followed too many writing masters examples and I loved them all.  My writing however does
not resemble any of the examples, nor does it have the flares that I so wished it to have.

How does one start or begin the process of refining one's writing?  Not making it personal, but more refined.

Kind Critique / I think I am ready... New Spencerian Compendium
« on: May 23, 2017, 01:38:47 PM »
Learning Spencerian have been difficult for me.  Seeking to improve my scratches on paper, I sought for a pragmatic script.  I found beauty and legibility, flexibility in this script.  I fell in love.  However, I saw no improvements from 1.5 yr of practice, I sought another.  Chancery is beauty to my eyes, and it was easy to grasp as it did not involve arm/shoulder movement as much.  Here I am again with Spencerian attempt after a 2.5yr of Chancery.  I believe that Chancery script helped me to fine tune my Spencerian.

With your gracious time and help, please add comments on where I can improve my endeavor.

My quest of using strictly straight holders like fountain pen...Lead me to oblique nibs.  How strange is this? Oblique two ways.

Open Flourish | General Discussion / One hand...Just one!

Hypothetically...And maybe not for some...
If you can obtain an exact duplicate hand of a particular Master, and for only one hand and no other for the rest of your life, would you do it?

One script, be it Neudorfer or Spencer or Arrighi, one specific script for the rest of your life.  Perfect replication.
