I would like to retract that statement.  Or, at least add the amendment: “except the capital letters ‘M’ and ‘N.’”

To be honest, I’ve never been fond of the appearance of the “humped style” ones and the ones with the thin angular lines have proven to be very difficult.  I’ve avoided learning and practicing them.
Inktober, however, has motivated me to start putting in some much-needed practice.  Maybe I’ll learn to love them after learning to make them.

Hi all, just my sentiments to you written out in Spencerian. I did the flourish at the top last.

Haha @Zivio  - I had the exact same thought! But you did so well!

I do like the letter M but struggle with it. I try not to throw shade at any letter (did you see what I did there?  ). So I did both the English and French versions.

@tiffany.c.a - Thank you for the good thoughts in your letter!  So glad you're inking with us - and what a lovely flourish with a lovely hand on that letter!

@Zivio & @Erica McPhee - thank you for leading the way with capital M's.  I appreciate having something to emulate.  I went with a humped version myself, and now see that I should have stopped while I was ahead.  Oh well, parts of it look good!

Thanks also for the book recommendation, Zivio -- I love a good adventure story!  With camels!

Congratulations everyone for having made it through the first week of Inktober!  All the different interpretations of the prompts are so delightful.  I'm almost starting to regret my decision to stick to "animals" this time around, but it's a fun challenge to come up with animals for more abstract prompts like "bouquet" and "trip" and "match".  I'm practicing full color birds again for today, with a species that really lends itself to the prompt.

Spent most of the day out of the house today, so tonight I'm just making myself practice on a French poem called "Three Matches".
I made myself write bigger so as to work on my letter shapes.

Three matches lit in the dark one by one
The first to see your face
The second to see your eyes
The third to see your lips
And all of obscurity to remember it all
As I hold you in my arms

@tiffany.c.a  Thank you for the reminder that I will not be hurt by falling of those sacred beasts! I will never view M's and N's the same going forward. 

I appreciate today's note you wrote us. It is one thing to practice drills, individual letter forms and words, but I very much appreciate the effort required to write out whole sentences and a cohesive note or letter.  This is my current personal challenge, and your offering today was inspiring!  And as mentioned before, your flourishes are something it's doubtful I'll ever pursue.  Beautiful!

@Erica McPhee  Glad to hear I’m not the only one!  But yes, shade or not, I’ll be making an effort to embrace all of members of the alphabet … they each have their place.
