Nice use of natural elements/backdrops. Over these past days, it’s been fun to see how things come together in your presentations, even spontaneously.

And thank you all for your kind comments on my work and progress.

Just an update today: For the particular exchange list I’ve been working on, I’ve written all the letters, the last two today. Will start adding a little flourish to them, and do envelopes. Participating this month has really been helping me accomplish this.

@Lucie Y - I really love the color of that ink!  And I don't think it's crappy at all!

@Zivio and @AnasaziWrites - the quick and the dead of the crab world!  Zivio - I'm relieved to hear it wasn't a real nest!  I thought I was losing my mind, trying to think of a bird that nests like that!

btw, Mike - trying to use McCaffery's for broad edge work has given me to frustrations in the past.  You might save yourself some trouble and work with sumi, if you're going to focus on broad edge.  And yeah, one of my friends in my doctoral program was Gujarati; and I had to study a bit of Sanskrit for my historical linguistics area, so I have a passing familiarity with a few of the scripts of South Asia, and how they relate to each other.

@tiffany.c.a - What fantastic quills!  A real treat!

Here's my quick crabbiness -- sometimes a loose sketch works though.  I tried the G303 nib again -- nope.  I do not have very good control over it.  And trying to emulate @Erica McPhee with a flourished capital C resulted in a pitiful fail in my warmups.  Going back to the 404 next time.  (and I'm going to keep practicing Erica's C - it's so beautiful, and seems within the theoretical range of possibility for me; just not tonight)

K-2 - Nice result with the nib used above. I find myself putting aside certain nibs for now for the same reason. Fun to try though.
Wonderful sketch. The looseness brought out a texture perfect for depicting a crab.

@K-2 this is actually watercolor. and i see from studying your and Erica's lettering that I'm still pressing down way too hard on the upper loops. Love the crab!

@Lucie Y  - Beautiful crabby! My favorite color, too. And I love the gold flecks!

@K-2 - Love your crab! Your artwork is so lovely. Have you ever considered commercial work for reproduction like greeting cards?

Lest I take undue credit, the flourished C is based on a historical example I found on Pinterest. I should know the Penman’s name and I know at some point I did but it escapes me right now. Zaner, Lupfer…? @AnasaziWrites  Do you know?   ;)

Francis B. Courtney. Classic.

Thank you, Michael, for the attribution on this "classic"!  I'm seriously a beginner and am happy to add a new name of a master to my limited encounters.  Reading up a bit now on IAMPETH.com which has the following link to Courtney's personal scrapbook:

Someday I hope to attempt signature writing and develop my own ... plenty of goodies in this scrapbook for ideas!
