Copperplate critique please
« on: January 31, 2018, 05:00:25 PM »
Hi.  I have been trying to learn copperplate using Eleanor Winter's book.  I would like some guidance on what to work on, and how to make my capitals less wonky!!  Thanks!

Beautiful work! You have really been practicing and it definitely shows. I really had to 'fine tooth comb' your exemplar to find areas for improvement! I would suggest working on two things which are actually similar in nature: your ascender loops in k, l, h, f are all a bit narrow. They should be a bit wider. The same is true for lowercase e.

Other than that, I would concentrate on squaring the tops of your letters to give them a nice strength - even if you have to go back and touch up.

You have a marvelous hand which will only become more beautiful the more you practice as you strengthen your lines and gain confidence. Well done!  :)
Warm Regards,

Thank you so much.  My ordinary handwriting is narrow and I find that creeping into my copperplate.  I will work on your suggestions.  I really appreciate you looking at my work.
