Though I love instragm for making connections, it's all hearts and smilies...  I need more.

@Jennifer M I couldn't agree more about Instagram. I have specifically asked for critique on there before, but all you get are "it looks great!" or heart eyes and smiley faces. That's not always helpful even though it's nice to hear.

Thanks all for your warm welcome!

There are lots & lots of Texans here at the Forum!  You have a local guild & you should check it out! - They have good workshops & meetings!

Thanks for the info, Janis! I think I'm going to join the guild. Never been a part of something like that, but I think it will be helpful. It seems like they meet regularly as well.

So, which script would you like to start in pointed pen?

Ashok, I want to learn Copperplate next. Taking a class is not in my budget right now, but hopefully I can get started with tutorials I've seen on the forum and with the feedback and support of this community.

Great job, Erica! It looks awesome and very organized. I especially like the social media links as stamps on the envelope...that's clever!

Hello Flourish Forum!

My name is Ana. I am a Texas transplant originally from southeastern Wisconsin.
I am an artist that loves printmaking of all kinds and typography. The smell of ink on paper is something wonderful. This naturally has led me to begin to dabble in calligraphy.

I learned about this forum through a local calligrapher when I took her modern calligraphy workshop. I also recently took a course in foundational calligraphy at Southern Methodist University where I was taught basic gothic, roman, italics, roundhand, and old english styles. These courses were a springboard for my learning and practicing which I intend to keep working at.

I know there is a difference between calligraphy as an fine art and simply lettering aesthetically. I do hope to learn both well, but you have to know the rules to break them, right?? I believe this forum will be a wonderful resource and community where I can grow and flourish (pun intended). I look forward to getting to know you all!

Tools & Supplies / Re: Higgins Calligraphy Waterproof Black Ink

I have not used that particular type of Higgins ink, but I have found that Higgins ink in general tends to have a more diluted look. I'm not a fan.
Of course if you're going for a watercolor-type look then maybe it's fine.
