Spencerian Script / Re: Working on some names
« on: November 13, 2015, 06:58:11 PM »
Flourishing is an elegant way of adding body and fanciness to a name. It doesn't have to be super complicated, sometimes just a little extra line carried further can add so much.

Attached are some examples from some amazing people, all from Iampeth.com

Thank you Schin.

I'll start working on my letters :P
I've been keeping track of IAMPETH but sometimes for a beginner the excess of information can be more confusing then none at all... Thanks again.

Spencerian Script / Working on some names

I'm trying to work on a beautiful and elegant way of writing names.
I have some certificates to deliver and i would like to give the signatures a little "body" and elegance. Could you please help and spare some advise?

I have been trying to work on ornamental penmanship, but I'm really a beginner so I'm still a little lost.

Thank you all.

Thank you for your words.
As soon as i can I will write you back (the effort of the translation demands it :P)

P.S. : I believe you were trying to say "Bem vindo. Desfruta do teu tempo por aqui." (sorry, I couldn't help myself :P)

Welcome!  What a beautifully scripted piece!

Thank you Bianca.

I saw your work. Loved your monograms! I have to learn something like that...

Beautifull :)

This is really cool.

Just a question. Do you do the origami piece, unfold it, write your calligraphy and fold it back? I can see a world of opportunities there :P

Thanks you for showing us your work.

Hi Fernando.  Nothing like inspiration that comes from boredom!  If you can post your pictures in a way that they can be enlarged, it may help you to receive comments.  The size they are are difficult for me to really get a feel for what you've done.

Debbie

Thank you Debbie.
It was taken with my phone (not a very good one). I've been able to scan it. So I hope that you can get a better feeling of it.

Thanks again :)

Introductions / Hello from Portugal
« on: November 04, 2015, 04:19:57 AM »
Hi my name is Fernando and I'm from Oporto, Portugal.

I'm new to calligraphy and after being sent here by uncle Google more then a few times for tips I decided to join.

We have always had a wide range of writing supplies at home (pencils, fountain pens, dip pens, nice papers and more...) because my father really cherished handwriting and encouraged us to practice and cherish it...although i love writing...practicing my handwriting was not on my priorities as a kid :P

A couple months ago, watching a piece on Jake Weidman, I couldn't help to get inspired...and that little kindle that my father planted lit up. So, i discovered some nibs in a shoe box, got some printer paper, a bottle of ink that had been laying around for ages and jumped at it...head first. The pool was not full...but not empty at all :P I have been enjoying myself ever since.

I guess my main goal would be to get proficient enough so I can use any type of calligraphy interchangeably, to create the best possible way to convey the thoughts and concepts of the actual words. Be those poems, posters, letters or even a simple signature. Right now I'm working on my Copperplate, Spencerian and Ornamental Penmanship. The tutorials, manuals and tips I've found online so far as helped me a lot, but I hope that being here would give me a way to improve that i can't get any other way. Hope I can get a lot of feedback here and maybe find a penpal (or 10), to have that extra encouragement  ;)

Feeling good to be here.
After a couple of months practicing. Here is the first "work" I was happy to show to someone. My way of saying "Hi" to you all

P.S.: It reads "Breathe Normally" in Portuguese.
