So cool! I've never joined an exchange and looking into changing that fact this year :) Thanks, as always, Erica!

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Re: What's your workstation like?
« on: February 23, 2016, 05:14:47 AM »
I seriously wish we have Ikea in the Philippines!

I love looking at everyone's workstations!!

This is mine...lots of Ikea, need a bulletin board (washi tape does not cut it), posed Buddy (we're working on "stay"), and it's never this clean!  ;)

I'm working on my freehand flourishing and I am happy I found some practice strokes on the Flourish thread! My flourishing seems so out of the box sometimes, and I want it to look more natural and with an easy flow...

I have been MIA from this forum for quite some time, but boy, the information and resources that everyone shares is just tremendous! Thank you Ken for sharing these practice strokes, will definitely try them out!

Not exactly a new idea but I cleaned out our fridge and found jam jars that I now use for Sumi and mixed gouaches. I'm so done with plastic containers because they tip over.

I use Washi tapes to put my ink jar on so that it's a bit tilted. Exercise a bit more care though not to accidentally tip it over :) when I used plastic containers I put them inside the washi to save it from getting knocked down!

Tools & Supplies / Personal Address Stamps
« on: June 28, 2014, 09:25:10 AM »
Hi everyone!  I've been seeing some people have personalized stamps made, like the ones for return addresses. I was wondering who's the best supplier for this in the US and roughly how much, and how long before you get your stamps? Well, the cheaper the better hehe :)

I'll be in California in September and am thinking of ordering beforehand. Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Hi Erica, I think you may have mentioned on one of your comments before about the Hiro 41 dumping ink. Are you guys still experiencing this? We buy this every month for the store but never heard anyone complain yet, and my personal stash of new Hiro 41's are doing okay.

I bought mine from PIA. Hope everything's solved.

Tools & Supplies / Re: Leave nibs in holder or remove?
« on: June 24, 2014, 06:04:34 AM »
Thanks everyone for sharing. I still keep my nib in most of the time, though in order for me to carry it, I have to remove the nibs and store it in my tin can. Otherwise I risk having the tines split due to external pressure.

If I'm at home I leave my nibs in. I realized that I am very careful about dipping my nib&holder in my ink jar / well so as not to have ink in between the nib and the holder. Quite frankly, my friends said I dip too little. If we're supposed to dip the nib to fill the entire hole, I just dip until I reach half of the vent hole.

I'm not sure if it's a practice I got used to in order to keep getting ink stuck between the nib & holder, or if it's because I used to be very heavy handed when I was in my first few months of calligraphy and the heavy pressure makes sooo much ink dump.

I like the background color (of the wall) it makes it feel so nice and sunny and creative :)

Sienne you're too cute to post this :) I was wondering actually why you call everyone Ate even the non-Filipinos.. until I read this thread :)

I'm sorry to hear about everyone feeling about stolen work, but like what Schin said, it could be that we're not the only ones who'd have thought of that, like the loop in Linda's. In all honesty, I did a logo just last week and I feel so bad that the client already has a peg, and wants me to COPY it. Like, literally, if possible, every curl.

I did my own rendition and she was like, "no the 'sway' of the tail should be JUST LIKE the one on the sample". Even the way the letter was written, she wanted THAT. And I just said I can do the tail but not the letters because that's not how I write. Either way, the layout is very much copied and I know I should have rejected it if only I knew that her "inspirations" weren't just inspirations.

I never posted on my instagram out of shame. She did post it on hers though, even if I have humbly asked her not to credit me anymore.  :-[

How does an artist rebut to this kind of situations?

Estefa, just curious... how do you know she writes fast?

Lisa, I'm quite heavy handed and indeed the G nibs are my faves. I'm loving Brause 66, Tachikawa G and Hiro 41, most especially. When at times I can somehow write with a nib more flex than those, I go for Esterbrook 357 and Leonardt Principal.
