Problems diluting BleedProof White
« on: November 10, 2016, 05:59:47 PM »
I am having a heck of a time getting the right mix of water
in with the Dr Martin's BPW.  I am going to keep trying with it
but I am also curious if anyone can make any suggestions
for a good white ink that does not involve mixing water in with it?
Straight from the bottle to nib essentially....

I've been using Velleda and Blanzy nibs recently.
The black paper has generally been Norcom Black Legal Pad.
Occasionally black stock card too.

Thanks for any advice!

I've no bottle-to-nib suggestions, Daniel, sorry - but in case you haven't already seen it thought this might help.  Schin really does have a video for every occasion.  :)

@AndyT

I think now I will try Schin's technique.  That seems to explain all my problems.
I was mixing the entire bottle to begin with.  Whoops!

Cheers!

I use the screw-on-top dinky dips from John Neal and mix a small amount at a time of the bleed proof with water. I like to dip and not use a brush for my ink.

I'm with Amy and Estefa, not that Schin's method doesn't work well.  I just like to have a little jar of pre-mixed white that's always ready to go.  60/40 ink/water is a good starting ratio and you can add drops of water if needed after that.  I add Gum Arabic if I'm using it on an envelope or need to erase later, since it will smudge.

@AndyT @Bianca M @AmyNeub @Estefa

One thing I did pick up from watching Schin's video that I wasn't doing was before dipping in the ink, doing a dip in water
to keep the nib clean. What a difference that makes! I am def going to say working with white is a bit more of a challenge but
I am going to keep on trying.   Had somewhat more success last night with this little piece.  Not so many flow problems....
I appreciate all of your advices...I am taking something valuable from everyone here!  Thank you!

Yes I follow the same method as @schin and find that it makes the jar last longer!

Beautiful work Daniel....absolutely beautiful!
