Hi guys,
Was on a business trip to Germany last week and I thought I would share something that might be of interest to you at one of the booth that I visited at an exhibition, the Gutenberg Museum.
http://www.gutenberg-museum.de/I have not visited the actual museum in Mains, Germany but at the exhibition they do demonstration of letterpress and papermaking.
What might be of interest for you (I spent quite a bit of time at this section of the booth) is the shop! They have an online shop for you to have a look too
www.gutenberg-shop.de.
I fell in love with the letterpress reproduction of the Gutenberg Bible. Below is the picture of the Book of Daniel. There are several versions of the reproduction. Due to budget constraint, I bought the cheaper version 😞. The version that I wanted is illuminated with 24k gold leaf in accordance to the ancient tradition on the finest handmade linen paper and it would cost 6.5 times as much. 😭
They also sell inks and some calligraphy materials. Worth having a look if you an ink hoarder like me. They have natural ink made from plant materials and bible ink which is chiefly used in monastic scriptoria and is made from gallnuts from different types of oak amd mixed with iron salts.
They also sell papyrus paper and goatskin/calfskin parchments.
If you are looking for gift ideas, you might get several options there.
