Recently I had a complaint regarding the number of times security questions must be answered to post for new members. In light of this, I reviewed the policy and reduced the number of posts necessary before the security questions are removed. Coincidently, we had the first spam we have had in months within just a few hours.
So, my apologies to all new members but the increased security questions have been put back in place. I know it is a cumbersome inconvenience but it is a temporary one and this measure helps keep our forum safe. It won't completely eliminate spammers but it does discourage them.

thank you erica for creating and maintaining our safe and happy little nook here!

It's nice not to have spammers in here!

thank you erica for creating and maintaining our safe and happy little nook here!
I approve :)
-
While its slighly annoying to answer the questions each time it isn't much to ask to keep spam off of here. It is also nice to know that the questions will go away eventually :)
-
Oh heyy they do go away after a while of posting :) I thought the security questions were in place for good, and I was fine with that! It's a perfectly reasonable little inconvenience especially if its just for the first few initial posts
There was one question I kept fumbling...
forum: "calligraphy means the art of beautiful -------"
me: "letters!"
forum: incorrect answer
me: damnit! "-------"?
every time!
-
Funny, I thought the same at first. But they will go away.
-
LOL ... they're only security questions if you don't give out the answers. I know they are easy to look up but that is the deterrent - having to take the time to look them up. Let's not make it easier for the spammers. ;)
-
Hee hee, I had the same experience as Karina! Have been quite proud of myself when I don't have to google the right answers. ;D
Whatever keeps the spammers and trolls away is a *good thing*.

I just can't imagine complaining about this amazing treasure trove of calligraphy awesomeness! I was too busy having my mind blown by the most incredible learning resource, with the kindest and most helpful people, all for free, during the first few posts that I couldn't think about anything else. Answering a few questions were a big ol' NBD for me.
Thank you for all that you do, Erica!

Thank you Meredith! ;) ;D
-
oh man, why have the spams invaded are beautiful little world :'(
-
We had a spam attack today...I wasn't on yesterday or today because I have a shoulder injury. But I'm on it now! :)
-
erica! i hope you're all right. please take care. i just thought the spams doubled their effort this weekend haha
-
What's amusing to me is that until I read this post, I had actually forgotten that I used to have to answer security questions! LOL!! ;D
-
Happy to know that they do go away eventually. I perfectly understand the need for them however :-) Thanks!
PS, thank you for adding in the shortcuts at the bottom of the page. Now if only I could get the same response on the ipad.
-
Now I can easily understand the reason why all these questions before login !
Thank you again for your Help Erica.
I am reading the posts here and I am learning.
-
This means I need to post more and lurk less! I appreciate all of the hard work that keeps the forum going!
-
I understood and I didn't mind. I think the content and the people on this forum make it worth it. Thanks for all the hard work!

Erica,
i am sorry to hear about your shoulder. I have had bum shoulders all my life. From age 6-30 i have had about 16 disloacations. I was able to do the Leathal Weapon straight jacket trick with no problem (giving away my age if any one has seen it). I had reconstruction on it a coupke years ago in my many sugeries i have had. Hope it not to serious or your writing arm, luckly mine wasnt lol. Take care,
Noah
P.s what ever to keep the trash out is ok by me :)
-
Oh my goodness Noah! That sounds so painful and inconvenient! Luckily for me, I was not in pain for too long. ;D
-
Yes Erica it has been no fun. The last 5 years really. After the shoulder was the elbow, on my writing hand of course. I had cubital tunnel surgery ( carpal tunnel but in the elbow). Then had 4 back surgeries. The last one was 3 level fusion in jan of 2013. And a year almost to the day had emercency removal of massive inflammed gall bladder. :) fun times. But as long as i have art i can stay realitively sane. Lol enough about me and not want/mean to hijack thread, sorry. I am glad you were not in pain to long. I dont wish it on anyone.
Thanks again,
Noah

You have been through so much. I'm glad you have art (and now us!) ;D as a stress reliever. :)

Being a very new member, I think the security questions are a good idea. A few of the questions are very simple if you are involved in Calligraphy, but some of the questions required me to use google to fine the exact word you were looking for...LOL i.e. a BROAD pen vs a FLAT pen.
No biggie. It is nice to learn that these questions will go by the wayside after a time.
-
Thank you Nathan @nathan32935 , I knew that some folks would have to google search but also knew the answer would be readily available. (And if not, I sometimes have folks email me and I send them the answers.) We had some problems in the past with trolls and bots and the security questions have been a compromise to address that. But you’re almost there (where there are no questions!) ;D
-
Thank you Erica for accepting my membership in the forum and for the wonderful resources you and others have created. As a beginner in calligraphy, this forum is invaluable to me. I agree that is a good thing to have the forum as a safe place free of spammers even if it takes a little more time to be able to post.
