Hello from Hong Kong

Hello everyone! I'm Charlotte from Hong Kong. (Ig name: papercanvasstudio)

I'm new to this forum but I have to say I've been following a lot of the calligraphers here on Instagram (sorry if it sounds like I'm a stalker! ). I love all forms of visual arts and I'm super fascinated by illuminated manuscripts. I picked up calligraphy around 2 years ago and I've been in love with it ever since!  I learned mostly from books and videos and sometimes I take workshops when the "masters" come to HK.  I have a boring and kinda demanding job at a bank and I've always used that as an excuse for not practising. I've only done wedding envelopes for a friend and some Christmas mails as calligraphy projects, but I would like to do more. Recently I'm taking Phyllis' online class and find the students forum (and being part of the calligraphy community) very motivational and inspiring!  I hope I can do some mail exchange with you some day!

Trust me, everyone here is very helpful. I joined this forum lately (9months back) and thanks to all the senior members who really tolerated my bad calligraphy and groomed me in the right direction.
As you rightly said we all are learning every day and there will be lot to work on till the very end. So don't be embarrassed to post your work.

I work at a government office, maybe not as demanding as your job, but i put myself a challenge of writing at least a short phrase in a post-it.
You are in the right place to get more knowledge and encouragement.

Works a little differently in the Forum.  We stalk-  they finally get fed up - they respond and teach us-  Our calligraphy improves

@Tonoortiz Thans for the welcome! I always wonder how calligraphers who have a full time job find/ make time to practise. It takes a lot of practices to write well but I'm always exhausted when I get home from work. I would like to know how you all keep motivated! And yes, I definitely want  to do mail exchange!!!

@prasad Haha that's good to know! I'm still learning to navigate the forum! I know there are tons of information here but it's a bit difficult for me to browse through the forum threads on my phone!
