Sheila Waters' Foundations of Calligraphy
« on: June 03, 2014, 03:21:47 PM »
I was looking up this book for someone and saw the price. OH MY. How do we know when a book is out of print?

http://www.amazon.com/Foundations-Calligraphy-Sheila-Waters/dp/0966530519

I have the book myself (purchased about 2 yrs ago) and believe it's one of the best with instructions on the most popular broad edge script styles.

Out of stock at both John Neal and Paper & Ink as well...

I have seen some crazy prices on out of print calligraphy books. The flourishing one by Bill Hildebrandt is another. Makes me second guess giving any of the ones I don't read up!  ;D

It's not nearly as bad as that.

First, and most importantly, you should know that the book is published by John Neal!

Second, you should know that the book is indeed out of print, but it is slated to be reprinted soon due to demand. And when it is, it will be the regular cover price of $35 USD.

I freaked out at the prices on Amazon too, but then found out that John Neal stocked them and was only charging the $35. The answer as to why was clear as day as soon as my copy arrived in the mail: It has the John Neal logo clearly printed on the spine of the book, on the back inside the cover, and says “Published by John Neal” on the bottom of the back cover. :P

that update in bright red on the JNB site was obviously not on the page when I posted this 3 weeks ago - good to know it will be reprinted! I refer to this book all the time.

Agreed—it is a staple. I think John Neal knows he can safely reprint it whenever the stocks deplete far enough safe in the knowledge that he will always sell out again, at least until the next Sheila Waters comes along ...
