Art or craft? 

That's a dangerous one since it'd pull in the knitters who were sitting in the corner and they've got pointy sticks!

As I knit also (and have copious amounts of pointy sticks), I may be able to hold my own at this battle 

So, when people start shouting over straight vs oblique we can both shout out, "Circular!" and confuse the hell out of them as they try to figure out what we're talking about. 

Or DPN!

Hello Salman,

@ash0kgiri pointed me in the direction of your tutorial. I am fairly new to calligraphy and the pointed pen and am trying to tackle Copperplate on my own  . I am thrilled to be a part of this forum and be able to connect with such talented people who share a passion for writing.

I am hoping that I am not to late to join this class as I would love to be a part of it.

I live in Cambridge Ontario and I have loved "old school" pens and journals all of my life. I am not sure why it has taken me so long to migrate my love of cursive to calligraphy (maybe fear  ). I have never felt that I was an artist or capable of creating anything more extraordinary than my "regular, everyday, handwriting". Now, I have taken a leap of faith in last few months and began to apply myself to learning to "draw" beautiful letters.

I am excited to have the opportunity to further that journey in this forum. Thank you for sharing your time and talents

BTW he is also taking a 4 hr workshop this weekend if you can make it. He is from Toronto.

I would also love to see your practice sheets... Dont hesitate to share it in 'Kind Critique' section for everyone to see and comment.

Wow thank you so much for the help. I will definately head over to the tutorial you recommend right after posting this 

I will be sure to post some of my practice in the "Kind Critique" section. I really struggle with keeping the slant consistent (the odd letter ends up more upright )  and with squaring off the tops and bottoms of full pressure strokes...I am sure there are many other issues but these are the ones I am working on most

Hello,

I am Lauri Alty and I currently live in Cambridge, Ontario.

I am very new to calligraphy and only picked up a pointed pen for the first time about  8 months ago. I have been actively trying to learn copperplate script for about 6 months. Although new to calligraphy, I have always had a passion for pens and ink. I collect fountain pens and seldom write with anything else (I have a few travel pens always  in my  purse and at work) 

I am a bit intimidated to be among so many talented artist but I am excited to learn and share with this community. I have found calligraphers I have met so far to be very kind and supportive so I am certainly looking forward to sharing here as well.
