FOF List 5 - did anyone get all 5 letters? I only got 3.

Has the list gone out yet? I haven't received any further emails; just hoping I don't miss it!

Hi Kate! I lived in Boston (Somerville) for a few years for grad school (Emerson College) and loved it so much. Welcome to the forum!

You could check out Massscribes.org - I wasn't doing calligraphy when I was in Boston, but I've heard that it's a great organizations with good workshops.

Great tip, thank you! (Davis Sq. is really happening these days, BTW!)

Apologies to the long time members who have seen me *pushing* my blog on numerous occasions --
but every time I see a new member who loves envelopes, I want to be sure they know about my blog
and the 2,000+ examples of decorated envelopes...and a new one pops up every day. More than half of the envelopes are by me, but many are by my penpals and on Sundays I re-post lettering styles that I see on Pinterest, etc...and include a link to the  artists.

Thanks for the link, what a great site!

Contemporary and Modern Calligraphy / Re: Modern Calligraphy Summit
« on: March 16, 2016, 08:38:44 AM »
Hi, everyone! I participated in the Modern Calligraphy Summit this year, so I'd love to share my experience.

I was skeptical about the cost and the online aspect of the tutorials, but I felt like I got my money's worth. The instructors reviewed supplies, techniques, and practice methods in their lessons. They walked through their own process step by step. They provided PDFs with the same information so you can print them and reference them later. I found it helpful to be able to watch the online lessons, look at the print outs, take notes, and then practice on my own or while watching the videos.

The videos are nicely produced. The information is solid. I've gone back to watch some of the videos several times since the summit ended, and I keep all the print outs in a binder with my notes so that I can look at them when I have questions.

I would consider myself to be a beginner at calligraphy, and I thought the summit was an excellent starting point to learn the basics (and some intermediate techniques) as well as get the insider scoop on supplies and process. It was eye-opening for me.

Hi, everyone! I'm Kate, and I live just outside of Boston, MA.

My interest in calligraphy developed when I started addressing the envelopes for my Christmas cards last year. It always felt like such a robotic process, and I wanted to find a way to make it fun. I experimented with different lettering styles, wrote out the envelopes, and was hooked. I started researching proper calligraphy and eventually discovered a slew of modern calligraphers and calligraphy styles online, which were all very inspiring.

I attended the Modern Calligraphy Summit this year and absolutely loved it!

I'm looking forward to practicing calligraphy, talking to other people about tips and tools of the trade, and learning/sharing as much as possible.
