I find Brush Lettering by Marilyn Reaves & Eliza Schulte to be very helpful. It covers both chisel-edged brush and pointed brush.
There are a few other good books out there on the topic, including a new one I think, so maybe check The John Neal Bookseller website.

Thanks so much! Will definitely try to get my hands on that book.

Brush Calligraphy / Brush Letter, where to start?

I've been wanting to do some brush lettering, but am not quiet sure where to start. I was hoping to find some tutorial on how to do it with just a brush. But was overwhelmed by everything out there online, most of which was brush lettering with pens.

I tried to figure it out on my own, and it turned out much like some of the wonderful projects my son came home with in kindergarten.  Not quiet what I was going for.

Help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the enchanting pieces. You have definitely peaked my interest in broad edge. I have a straight and oblique holder. Can I use a broad edge nib in either of those? And if I were to start with 1 or 2 nibs what would you recommend?

I've been sharing all my letter with my family and they ooo and ahh over all of them. I feel very blessed to be receiving such wonderful gifts.

Hi Catherine. I received your letter this past Thursday. You're flourishes are so lovely! I grew up on the east coast and my husband lived in Charlotte when he was younger. It is so beautiful and green out there. I do miss that at times.

Every time I get a letter, it makes me so happy. Thanks again for bringing some happiness into my day!

Dear list 6 friends,

I've just gone out of the Post SO ABSOLUTELY HAPPY. I went to the office near work to send your envelopes because the people in the office near home truly hate my letters. This postman grabbed them all and starred and said "these are stunning. How did you do this? This is so beautiful. He showed them around the office and everyone was so happy that there's people still doing this! He sent encouragement to keep the art alive.
Anyway, don't have hight hopes, they are not that great. But I am very happy of how they turned out and to have for the first time EVER someone not related to me or part of the forum saying my work was beautiful. It's super encouraging. :-) I hope you guys like them!

Keysa!!! Thank you so much! It IS beautiful.  My husband and son were very impressed too. We had been out of town this past week, so, I was excited to be greeted home with such a special letter! As for, "what's for dinner?" that questions gets asked an awful lot in at our house. LOL.  I'm not the best in the kitchen that it's nice to know some good Venezuelan food is not too far away.

Mailed my letters out a few weeks ago. Hope it makes it to you soon.

We mere mortals want to see pictures!!

Not getting to see the exchange pieces people are raving about makes me feel like I'm seven years old and somebody's chained me to my bed on Christmas morning.

Don't feel bad--I suspect most of the members of this exchange have not finished making their entries yet, as the deadline to post is June 23, and most people wait until close to the deadline to mail them. After the deadline plus a week or two so everyone has received theirs, the results will be posted (hopefully), although less than half the people in the "Mimic a Master" exchange published their submissions (unfortunately).

I agree with Andrew and Matthew. Hard to wait.....
But, I guess I'll just have to.

Please to all you flourishers out there, once enough time has pasted after the deadline, we'd love to see pictures posted 

Michael, I'm privileged to personally see some of your handy work. Can't wait to see your flourishing.

Welcome Lauren. I'm fairly new here and how found there's tons to learn. Sooo much to the point I somewhat get distracted by all the things I'm reading about. I just need to remind myself one thing at a time.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
