A gift for Valentines Day
« on: January 15, 2016, 01:25:32 AM »
I've been practicing quite a bit, but I've got to do something real every once and a while.  I was trying to come up with an idea for Valentines day and came across this quote on Facebook.  I used the same elements but drew them in my own way.  I wanted something to give to my wife and daughter.  I love them so much and after turning 50 last year and seeing such greats as Alan Rickman and David Bowie die at the age of 69 recently, I know that I should cherish every moment with them.  I know I may not always be there for them.  Sheesh I'm getting sappy.  Tears and ink don't mix well.  Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, here is my attempt at calligraphic art.

By the way, I also invite pointers and criticism.  I can easily see some things that I would like to improve, but there may be things that I don't notice.  For example, I notice that the lettering is not as smooth, or consistent as I would like and that the starts and ends of thick lines are not as square as I would like.  I would also like my little Piglet and Winnie to be move lovable.  I hope that continual practice will help.  I also hope that pointers from all of the more experienced calligraphers in the Flourish Forum will help.  Thanks!

There is no way I can critique that... it's perfect as it is. [wipes away tear] What a sweet, thoughtful gift. Surely will be treasured!  :-*

This is so sweet! Save the critiques for other work, and just be proud to give this gift of yourself to your family. Thanks for sharing it here!
