Five copies of the Gettysburg address are known to have been hand written by Lincoln himself, two contemporaneous with the speech itself, and three shortly thereafter (written by request to be sold to raise funds for civil war veterans). This is a copy of the fifth and last one, called the Beecher letter after the man to whom it was given. The original Beecher letter hangs in the white house now. To me, the most eloquent and noble speech ever made by a US president.
The copy posted here is my copy number four, which has no envelope, as it was given to my wife by hand (she is on all of my exchange lists).
