This is something I did last month. It's done on an A3 watercolor sheet, with shellac ink wash.

This part of the forum seems awfully quiet... Let's show some Spencerian love!

... and I went big. This is 2m wide and 1.5m high. It's a mural for my newborn son's room.

I did a card for a newborn girl, and quite liked how it came out. Her's the "relevant" bit:

Broad Edge Pen Calligraphy / Italic handwriting practice
« on: February 17, 2014, 03:59:54 PM »
Inspired by reddit's /r/calligraphy word of the day, I did a bit of handwriting practice. I went for flow (and to some degree speed), rather than accuracy, but kept some "old style" features that I don't usually use in my daily writing.

In any case, it was very fun to write...

Iron-gall ink on cartridge paper. French square cut nib, probably 0.5 or 0.75mm.

The other day Joe Vitolo posted this wonderful exemplar of Lupfer's work on the FB calligraphy group, and it's so wonderful, I felt like sharing it here.
It's a very nice blend of ornamental-style caps with a flourished roundhand lettering... One can only wish to achieve anything close to this!

Spencerian Script / Some full arm practice for Ornamental capitals
« on: February 09, 2014, 05:35:59 PM »
After doing Spencerian for about a year now, I still pretty much suck at doing ornamental caps, so last week I decided to start practicing more. Here's some "full arm" practice. Nothing too good, but very fun to do!

Show & Tell / Time is getting shorter...
« on: February 05, 2014, 05:56:00 PM »
Pen control exercise in English Roundhand. X-heights are 10, 6, 4, 2, 1.5 and 1mm. The mis-alignment in the last three is due to the lack of guidelines so small. I used a Brause 66EF for the larger sizes, and an Esterbrook 355 (first one I try, and like all other Esterbrook nibs I've tried, it was love at first sight! Awesome lil' nib!) for the smaller ones. I started losing control at the 2mm mark, in the last three, the 'm' became rather Spencerian-ish at the joins, but overall, I like how the word is still clearly in roundhand.

This was good fun!

Lyrics are fun to write!

Here's some I've done...

Spencerian Script / Spencerian guidelines
« on: January 31, 2014, 09:46:49 AM »
Hi,
I've made some Spencerian guidelines for my own practice, and thought maybe they can be helpful for other people.

2, 3, 4 and 6mm x-heights, 52º slant.

Cheers,
 Martín

Here's a practice sheet from yesterday. I'm aware of several errors in it, but I might be missing something, so any hard/constructive criticism you can give me would be very welcome!

Cheers,

Introductions / Hello from Finland!
« on: January 28, 2014, 05:34:44 AM »
Hi, my name is Martín and I live in northern Finland. I've been doing calligraphy for about a year and a half as of this writing. I started out with Chancery italic, and then picked up Spencerian about a year ago. Now that I'm comfortable with those, I'm trying to learn Copperplate.

Looking forward to finding nice people and nice calligraphy here :)

This is a more or less representative sample of what I can currently pen in the scripts I practice...
