I'm so excited about this one! This was my first exchange ever last year, it'll be fun to see some improvement from my goofy google eyed monsters ;D.

What do monsters have for dessert? Ice scream.

Many apologies for not replying sooner, Meredith!  I forgot to turn on notifications for this one and am just seeing your question.

Clean up is as easy if not easier than with the markers and you can put it on as thick or thin as you like and it adheres as well as the markers, too.  For final clean up, I wanted to polish the mirror and free it from fingerprints, it withstood just like the marker areas, a light buffing with a microfiber cloth.

Thanks, Debbie!

I have tried Bistro, Chalk Ink and Uni Posca markers.  They all do a pretty good job and I imagine it just depends on your preference.  The Uni Posca markers do come in a wide array of colors, though.  My biggest discovery and why I popped this thread back to the top is that gouache and a paint brush works REALLY well!  Just remember to keep the mixture pretty thick, just a tad thicker than you might use with bleed proof white.

Interesting tip about the gouache! Do you know how easily it comes off?

That's my kind of challenge. Following!

I'm planning to take her Beginner Spencerian next year, too.  I've been delaying and delaying Spence ... it's time. I need to stop being scared!

I'm not taking this one (same reason as Natascha  :) ), but I do plan to take the Spence class. Glad to hear you're taking it, too, Moya!

This sounds so fun, but- am I the only one who can't talk and calligraph at the same time?

Me trying to show my mom how I do it by writing her name goes about like this:

Elza-  "darnit, hold on, mom."
Eizab- "shoot, I skipped another letter."
Elizb- "grrr."
Eliabeth- "nevermind. I just can't"

Whhhhhooooaaaa! I almost missed this! I'm glad I'm finding time to catch up on the posts I missed recently. Thank you for sharing this!

Need to start saving up... Not only for the trip.... But the holders and the inks and the nibs  ;D ;D

Those Jake Weidmann ergonomic holders have me drooling on my phone every time I see them.  ;)

Coming late to this topic, sorry. Not sure if this will work, but what if you left the jar open while you're not using it? The water would evaporate, but you could just add more when you're going to use it again. I haven't had this problem with BPW, but it's what I do when I mix up too much Pearl Ex and don't want to throw it out, and it works every time.

A small annoyance at the post office recently: I had a small package to send, and knew it would need to be put in an official USPS box because mine was small, so I calligraphed a small label myself to tape on. I got there, stuck it in the box, went to tape it at the counter and the lady who was otherwise super friendly, wouldn't tape it to the front and would only accept the address printed on their label. Then she taped mine to the back.
 Meh. Ah well.
I grabbed a couple of the boxes on the way out so I can label them myself next time.

Hi Pri! Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you've already figured out that this is an awesome place to be to learn calligraphy!

I'm in Dallas, too. There are a number of us Texans on here, as Janis said. Message me anytime if you want to know about lessons in the area or the Dallas calligraphy guild!
