2022 Exchanges / Re: Secret Santa?
« on: March 04, 2023, 09:49:16 AM »
Erica, I really enjoyed this exchange. I received the most generous mail too from my Secret Santa. I would definitely do this again. It was nice to interact more deeply with a fellow Flourisher.

I like how you used the descender/ascender flourishes to connect to the ampersand. Really creative and unique. Thanks for sharing!

Hello my list mates,
I’ve been struggling with covid for the past two weeks. I’m now on the mend. But finally got my exchanges in the mail today! I hope they will make it by the 14th for those in the states. And my sincerest apologies for those in other countries. But hopefully better late than never!

Erica, I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you are fully recovered and feeling stronger. Your envelope came back to me, so it's should be en route again after today! Take things slow. <3

Spencerian Script / Re: Imperfection

You might notice here ghosts of other letters. As I use both sides of practice paper, work from another day is on the back of this piece of paper. I generally fill one side and put it aside to dry and use the second side another day. No sense wasting paper.

I do this too, Mike. If you hold the paper to the light/window, the serendipitous placement of the two-sided letters and strokes makes for a cool design.

Go one step further and up-cycle your practice sheets to wrapping paper. :)

@nicole.t Your exchange letter came back to me. It seems that the post office gets confused when I put my address on the back, thinking that is the recipient address -- even though your non-DC address and stamp on front should be clear signs!

Sigh, I'll re-stamp and send this on its merry way. I hope that the rest don't suffer the same fate.

Tools & Supplies / Re: Looking For White Ink Recommendations
« on: October 17, 2021, 09:40:41 AM »
Like Erica, my go-to is BPW too. I also really like McCaffrey's White and Ivory. The inks are thinner in consistency and thus not as opaque as the BPW, but you can get really beautiful hairlines with the McCaffrey's. The one advantage is you can use it straight out of the jar. Just watch out for the mold and clumps that sometimes form between use.

I'm not a fan of the Daler-Rowney Pro-White -- avoid that one. It's good for more expressive/gestural work, but I wouldn't recommend it for fine and delicate pointed pen use.

Good luck!
Janice
