2024 Exchanges / Re: An Important Message About Exchanges
« on: April 03, 2024, 10:05:56 AM »
I tend to pop into the forum when I fancy doing an exchange, but my timing has been off over the last few years, so I apologise for that.
Doing exchanges is a wonderful way to improve calligraphic skills, and I take part in the Copperplate Special Interest Group exchange, which means sending one exchange card a month, and it's generally UK, and Europe, though there can be letters to Canada and Australia. I find it very gentle, and all levels are welcome.
Anyhow - Thank you, Erica, for all the exchanges via this forum. I liked that one where we sent one decorative letter each to members of our group and all the letters together made a word - that was fun!

Hi Erica,
I popped by to see if there were any exchanges open, but the bar now looks extremely high!! - I saw what was done for the Valentine exchange - terrific work!!
When will the next exchange be open? [apologies for asking this in the wrong place].

I love your ‘r’ in this script, Erica! And the rest of it - but especially the r!

Oh! I am also in Devon! There are some very quirky places to visit - I usually head to Lynton if I want to treat myself to a day out - not because of anything arty, but just because I like it there - though it does have some nice galleries. Lynton also has the cliff railway, which is great fun. And there is Clovelly, which is very quaint.
For South Devon, Totnes is good, and I like going to Bigbury on Sea where there is a causeway to Burgh Island [Agatha Christie!].

If you come out of season then remember to pack your wellies :-)

Hello and welcome, Peter! Yes, calligraphy is something that you can try to teach yourself to do! It's about perseverance. It does take time and a lot of work to get it to look how you want. A teacher may be able to help with the basics and point out where you're going wrong, but it's practice and studying letterforms that will get you there in the end.
