I've got that font! I never noticed the breaks in it -- I've never used it, but I had to have it! It's free, if I remember right.

Yes it is.  I really dislike script fonts, but as you say, had to have that one.  The only other one I have is Jefferson (also free), and the problems are readily apparent.

Natascha and Estefa, I'm so jealous both of you took a class with Barbara! That's on my dream to-do list since my first Copperplate class last year. I wrote her an email once and never heard back...I just assumed it ended up in junk mail. :(

It's really crazy :O I can't believe it myself. It'll be a while till I'll be able to attend another class though, there is nothing happening around here, calligraphy-wise. That was really a stroke of luck!

Barbara is one of my calligraphy idols! She just taught at Legacies in Dallas this past week if I remember correctly.

No, but I think her book on brush lettering will come out this fall.

........ it sounds like Spencerian might actually be easier to learn than Copperplate. Is that true?
If you know both, which did you learn first, and what do you like best about each hand?
[/quote]

IMO Neither is particularly easy to learn, but Copperplate is much harder to write well.

I'd like to see that!! (But some people really do switch in a different gear when doing calligraphy. I am surely among them, because my normal handwriting is really, really fast (and often not very pretty), and calligraphy really, really slow …)

Spencerian swagger p's sound funny ;).
My everyday handwriting is cursive Italic (since 1981) and I am guilty of sometimes letting it get loose and sloppy. This is because I am in more of a hurry and write faster, and thus lose any semblance of rhythm, which is so important in most things calligraphic .  I too believe Spencerian to be harder to learn.  Practice, practice, etc.
Really, my everyday is written faster when there is no need for speed.
