« on: January 18, 2014, 10:39:20 PM »
Hi!

I am a newbie to Copperplate calligraphy.  I found this forum a few days ago through Besotted blog and finally got a chance to register and start my supply list.

Erica, thank you for this forum and for the lessons.
I can't wait to order my inks, papers, and nibs!!!

Susie.

Just got my inks, nibs and pens in the mail!  Unfortunately, the Peerless Oblique holder was on back order.  :(
I briefly got to try out the Zebra G nib with the Tachikawa 40 and sumi moon palace ink on copy paper. It was a pretty chaotic atmosphere for practicing with the kiddos around, but so fun to finally test them out!  Soooo much better than imagined. I figure it can only get better with the oblique holder!!!

Thank you so much Erica, Karen and Nora for so much guidance I've already received and for the warm welcome here in the forum!  :)

Sus

Hi Sus!

Happy/sad news! It's like a big tease without the oblique! But still fun! Hope the new pen holder arrives soon!  :D

Hi Susie!  Welcome to the forum!!

Ugh, don't you hate it when stuff is on backorder?  I'm waiting on a Paper and Ink Arts order that is ALL kinds of late, and I really NEED more nibs...  I'm up to my ears in wedding work right now and I have exactly two more of my favorite nibs and I'm running out of sumi ink.

I wonder if customs is holding my order for ransom again.  I'd be happy to order from France, if anybody would carry this stuff!   >:(

Hello, and welcome!

Getting new toys but missing a vital component to use them can be quite frustrating - I hope it gets there fast!

Those are beautiful!
If I ever start using (and liking ;) ) obliques I'll have to order me one.

Hi Erica,

I finally got my peerless oblique holder!  And I finally tried out Hiro 41 and I love them both!
It took some getting used to after practicing almost a month with the Tachikawa 40 holder.
I love the G nibs but I see why you recommend Hiro 41.

Thank you also for the walnut ink recommendation.
I find the walnut ink so much easier to use than Sumi moon palace when I'm trying out a new nib.
Is that weird?  And when it dries, it's so pretty.  :)

Hi Joy,

Calligraphy practice has not been as often as I'd like, but working on my capital C's and E's lately.
Toughies!!!

But finally the oblique holder, brause EF nibs and walnut ink arrived last week!!!
I don't know how you wait for your supplies as long as you do.
I waited about 3.5 weeks and it felt like a lifetime! :'(

Hi Susie,

That's great! I'm glad you like the Hiro 41 and the G's. Isn't walnut ink wonderful?! I just ran out of my huge bottle and I had to go back to sumi. It really is more difficult! It's the texture I think. Sumi is heavier and slows the nib down a bit. (Which in some cases is good.) I just really love the flow and smoothness of the walnut ink. And I really like the shade it produces, too.

I'm glad you like it, too!

I just ordered my first Tachikawa! I look forward to trying that.  :D

I'm glad you let us know how you liked them!  :)
Warm Regards,
Erica
