Hi Flourish Forum,
I've been a member for a few months, but haven't spent much time on the forum or practicing since I joined...until the last few weeks, where I've been lurking around reading old posts and pulling out my pens/ink and trying to find a few days a week to practice. Thought it was time to finally introduce myself now that I'm starting to get serious about calligraphy again!
My love for letters started when I was very young. I remember in elementary school, I loved going to stores (e.g., Sanrio) where I could get cute little notebooks and pens and pencils. Even today I could spend a lot of time in stationery stores. New pens and paper make me happy. In high school I was introduced to calligraphy, and started out doing mostly broad edge pen styles - because getting a broad edge calligraphy marker was easily accessible. At that time, I didn't know what a nib/dip pen was, and if I did, had no idea where to get one. Then computers started became more prominent, yet I loved typography also. FCalligraphy took a back seat, but then I picked it up again when I graduated college, where I had a year off before I started grad school. I briefly started getting into Copperplate, but I didn't have time to devote to it. Between years & years of grad school, getting married, having kids, and working at a fast-paced & stressful job, life just got too busy for lettering except for the rare piece of snail mail I still send to a some friends or making birthday signs for my kids. But now my kids are a bit older, I'm getting more uninterrupted sleep, finding a tiny bit more time for myself, and starting to see a resurgence for Calligraphy in the world, which has reignited my passion for letters again. I love it, as it is such a soothing and comforting activity for me to wind-down from my busy life!
I don't spend a lot of time following blogs, on social media, etc. Even navigating through forums is kind of new to me! I have an IG account that I opened 3 years ago... and last posted 3 years ago. I'm planning to get with the times, though, and create a new open account to start sharing some lettering posts soon!
I look forward to getting to know some of you and contributing to the lettering community!
Kim
