You got it. Mine was 30 dollars,10 bucks cheaper. But hey money doesn't grow on trees. I ordered mine from johnnealbookseller Hope I get it soon.

Brad, when you get the holder, always be mindful of where the tiny screw is when you remove the nibs and don't let it get too loose and fall out. They are hard to find if you drop them! John Neal sells replacements, though. Another tip is to get a small screwdriver that come with eye glasses repair kits, I keep one with my calligraphy supplies.

Thanks. Linda I saw those screws but decided against buying them. I wear eye glasses so I have those screwdrivers. But I will guard that screw with my life when I remove it. That would be bad if I misplaced it. I thought maybe it was some sort of screw that was used in other things in case such happened. I might be terribly wrong though. But thanks for the great tip.

Did anyone of you ever try a thicker holder? They're supposed to reduce hand fatigue.

Hi Erica, Linda, Brad,

I would love to know what you think about the Blackwell plastic and hour glass holders.
I currently have the black peerless oblique holder and it is so hard to change out nibs!  On some occasions I've just settled for my Tachikawa straight holder because it was so hard to get the Hiro 41 nibs out of the oblique holder! 

I was comparing the Blackwell plastic holder and the PIA hour glass holder Erica mentioned from John Neal Books and PIA.
I love the idea of being able to use almost all nibs (except exceptionally larger nibs -not sure if I have them) especially the Brause EF66 with the Hour glass holder too but I'm concerned about the angled slant of the wood holder by the brass flange.

The peerless and the Blackwell plastic holder seems to have almost the same flat tip shape by the flange.  Peerless has no screw and the Blackwell does for ease of switching nibs.

I've seen Jim Vitolo's video on the hour glass holder.
Does anyone know of a video that shows how the Blackwell plastic holder works? 
Also, can a nib alike Brauss EF66 fit also with the longer screw?

I'm sorry I don't have one to compare. I haven't received the wider one with the screw yet either. I will report back when I do about if or how I like it.

Unfortunately John Neil did not have the holders in stock and were on backorder for weeks. So I had to cancel my order because I could not wait.

Brad: Ugh, sorry to hear you had to cancel your order. I guess it's so popular that it's been on backorder. The company that makes it is ThePenArtisan.com, but they only have Ruling Pens listed on their site right now.

Susie: I love my Blackwell - it's my go-to penholder. I have small hands so they feel very comfortable to hold, and I didn't have to adjust the flange at all - the angle is somehow just perfect for me. I took a few photos so you can see it the holder with my smallest (EF66) and my largest (Esterbrook 048 Falcon) nibs. It's using the same screw.

The holder by itself:

Although the 048 fits, it is a bit too large and feels awkward for me to write with. So I just use it in a straight holder.

Is it the Century Oblique holder?
Any pro/con of the Peerless (coated plastic) vs Century (wood) oblique holders?

Or should I just go for the Blackwell holder or the Adjustable Hour Glass holder? 
The Blackwell seems to be the easiest to adapt to various size pens/nibs.

The adjustable hourglass from P/I arts was my second oblique and it's still one of my favorites, I'd probably say I prefer it over the blackwell personally but not by much. Both are pretty great.

IOW, I may end up with BOTH the Blackwell and the Adjustable Hourglass holders.  he he
Would it be worth my while to also get a Peerless and/or Century oblique holders?
Compared to my fountain pens, several oblique holders is not out of line, but I don't want to go nuts either.
