Spencerian Signatures We Like
« on: August 07, 2016, 02:55:22 PM »
If there is a Spencerian signature you like, feel free to try your hand at it and post it here.

This is a (poor) copy of a Courtney signature from Michael Sull's Spencerian Script and Ornamental Penmanship, Vol. 2, p. 428. Nice balance between bold shades and delicate letters.

Found the original on ebay. I suspect it's from the Business Educator but I'm not sure who penned it. Whole arm movement is no joke!

Very nice, himasf, well done.

You mention you have the original. Is it on a card or is it printed, as if a clip from Business Educator or some publication?

Also, you mention you got it from someone on eBay. Was it Madocs by chance?

Aha. A little background.
That specimen was almost certainly part of the Lupfer collection. When Lupfer died in 1974, he left behind a collection of about 50 years of specimens, most of which appeared in The Business Educator, of which Lupfer was editor and contributor for many years. His widow sold the collection to Del Tysdal (who, sadly, died in 2013) for, I believe $5000. It filled three vans. Del was selling parts of this collection in the early 2000's on eBay, where Madocs (Aidan Meehan, a talented Celtic design calligrapher and author) bought that specimen and many others (I bought a few myself), which he is now selling.  Now they are rarely offered, except for Madocs. If you are interested in originals, I would encourage you to buy at least a few. Originals are simply finer than any reproductions.

 :o :o :o

Thanks for the info. I've wondered all this time who this madocs fella was.
Yeah, I'm not that interested in clippings/reproductions but I don't know how to get originals
without breaking into @schin 's house.  ;D

Stay away from my house... I have a very ferocious dog who will not hesitate to bite you!! >:(

Even a small scrap from madocs is enough.. you can see in person how fine the lettering is.

If I find a second in my day, I will add. Otherwise, I will just drool.

Stop looking, I've found a second for you.
If drooling is involved, may I suggest waterproof ink?
