Open Flourish | General Discussion / Appropriate flourish
« on: December 07, 2019, 05:01:13 PM »
An older man I know well recently had someone close to him die and I would like to send him a note. Would ornamental type penmanship be off putting? Maybe minimal flourishing with a little taller letters so a person in there 90s can read easily? Please let me know what's appropriate. Thanks Mike

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Neck Pain
« on: October 11, 2019, 11:07:58 AM »
Hi everyone,

I have been writing daily for several months with both forearms on the table without any neck pain. Now that I'm trying to flourish more with big strokes, when I lift my forearm on my dominate hand while writing, within about 20 minutes, I have severe neck pain. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have any suggestions on how to avoid neck pain when flourishing? I looked at other threads regarding posture and I didn't find anything helpful.

Thanks,

Mike

Copperplate, Engrosser's Script, Roundhand Calligraphy / oval
« on: July 25, 2019, 09:58:43 AM »
I'm new to the forum so forgive me if this topic has been covered before. Most engravers cutting copperplate, shade the inside of ovals  like an o, while engrossers writing the letter o sometimes shade the outside of the oval. Do some engrossers write the letter o with the shading on the inside? Is there a preferred method? Thanks ,Mike

I'm a metal engraver trying to improve my copperplate lettering and flourishing skills. Really enjoy the challenge and find the whole thing quite addicting.
