HOW ABOUT A PINTEREST BOARD WITH CONTRIBUTORS??
« on: April 04, 2014, 09:50:53 PM »
i just had an idea! what about a flourishforum pinterest board that erica can invite other MEMBERS to contribute to?  this way we can all view each others' work on one board and leave comments?!  :D

the idea actually comes from witandwhistle's board called "hand lettering practice" that i've been contributing to since the beginning of my hand lettering "career" and since its inception.

although i know this might make the "sharing" category obsolete, but i'd love to be able to see images of everyone's work in one place like on a pinterest board and people can always leave more detailed posts in the "sharing" category here in the forum as well if they want more feedback?

I love your enthusiasm Torrie! But, I do feel it takes away from the forum sharing. That is the whole intent of the forum - a place where everyone can share.

I already feel some overlap with Instagram and not everyone is on both Instagram and Pinterest and/or the forum. So personally, I'd prefer to keep the sharing on the forum.

But that doesn't prevent you all from sharing!  :)

I didn't sleep last night because my 16 year old was out for a sleep over for the first time with her license and a car! So I was thinking about this some more. I understand the desire to have a visual all in one place. My biggest hesitation is it would discourage sharing here.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? I'm open to hearing them. Thanks!

A simple solution if you want a more graphic based format would be just use Instagram since Flourish Forum is already there. Come up with a universal hashtag that members could use, such as #ffmember or #flourishforum, to make it easy to find them all.

My opinion is adding another outlet for sharing of the board would scatter the content to the point it would be more work to search and find ideas shared. There are so many social media outlets that taking this content to them all would be utterly impossible.

Thanks Christopher,

We already do that on Instagram. The hashtag is #flourishforum.

I appreciate your thoughts, though. I agree -- I think it may be too many things to keep up with...

On the other hand ...  :o

Let's just keep it on the Forum.
It's one of the things that makes the Forum so special!

I totally agree with Erica and Roseann. Instagram is great for just sharing but the forum is a kind and educational place to get a kind critic.

Thank you Roseann and Nickki - I appreciate your input. Yes, I agree. So for now, we'll pass. Thank you though, Torrie for thinking of ways to help us share.  :)

I have to agree.  Sharing outside of the forum was the demise of our wedding coordinator's forum a few years ago.  It was sad and I went through withdraw like none other.

I understand why you don't want to do this. (And Daisy's experience seems to confirm it.)

However, I do like Pinterest for things I want to refer to later for inspiration. (It saves a lot of time searching for something.) My question is, is it OK to pin things that are shared here, in general? I'm not sure what the 'netiquette' is and if everyone would appreciate it. Some people would welcome the exposure, but others may not. (I know there are a few things that you said "Please don't pin!" Erica :)) Would it be better to just pin to a private Pinterest board?

That is a really good question, Lori.

To be honest, initially I did not know you *could* pin from a forum. (My bad in not knowing that.) I only found out after the tutorial video was pinned from the forum.  The only things I don't want pinned are the pointed pen tutorials as I want to keep those as a special "bonus" for members only. Anything else I pin is fair game.

However, for everyone else's work, I want members feel comfortable posting here and not worried their practice or critique is going to get pinned on Pinterest. I think if people use common sense and ask if they are unsure, it should be fine. But if you have any doubt, you can always keep a private inspiration board.  :)

hey all, that's totally fine :) i understand the special-ness of it being here on the forum and i'm all for special-ness!  hope you didn't take my silence to mean anything here - i just have to be intentional about checking in every so often and sometimes i miss a few days!

wonder if you can have contributors for the "secret boards" on pinterest... where only those invited could see it.  again, i still get why it's easier for it all to be in one place, rather than scattered in various social media so i'm not trying to push the idea, but this is the last thought i just had. :)

Thanks Torrie! You can have contributors for the secret boards. I have set up boards for clients where I post things and they post things and we comment back and forth. But I have to invite them by email.
