And did you need to taste each whisky first to get a flavour of the design you would eventually make for the label ? :)

Food for thought

I love this lettering style. Does it have a name, Ken?

The "w" on the card is the form used and posted by Ken Frazer recently I seem to recall - a combination of an "n" and a "v".

As it was Beaujolais Nouveau day yesterday, and as I'm not even at your 1989 standard (yet?) I opted for a glass of the 2023 vintage at my local bar :)

I enjoy all your posts, Ken, but this is a wonderful copy. What a commission to have been given!

Sorry, I don't mean to lurk  :) I visit the Forum almost every day and really appreciate everyone's efforts - hence the many, many "likes".
I did a lot of calligraphy about 30 years ago and then stopped because life took over. I've maintained my interest since then and have recently taken it up again since my retirement, a house move and having found a small association of amateur calligraphers nearby. I'm English by birth but have lived in France for the past 17 years.
I'm finding it difficult to regain the steady hand I once had. And I'm left-handed too which poses its own challenges. Perhaps, when I've gained more confidence, I'll post some of my attempts at emulating your beautiful work.
Well done everyone !

Inktober 2023 / Re: Day 16 - 2023: Angel

I've been back and forth (mostly back ;D) about whether to post this. But then not posting it because it isn't perfect defeats the purpose, right?!

I have to admit, the process of working on this today has helped me in so many ways. Rather than write angel in black practice ink, it seemed the perfect time to try to get to grips with Schmincke gold gouache. I confess, I usually prefer a slightly deeper shade of gold (and gouache remains something of a headache, I'm afraid). But I really enjoyed working with it. I also had to write flat, which I don't usually do, and it taught me I definitely need to practise more of that. Anyway, I'm just making excuses now. Here goes…

(And like you said, @K-2, hopefully the fact I've failed so much while doing this means I've been pushing myself!)

WOW!!

Where did you begin that "G" ? It appears to be at the base of the "l" but .....
