I have to warn you that the Blick stores do not have the same prices as the catalogs.  Made a trip downtown to the Blick store to get Dr. Martins hydra ink set for about $51 and discovered it was something like $82.  Clerk confirmed they do not have the prices in the catalog....

ahhh i hate when that happens  >:(

if you didnt end up purchasing here is a coupon i got in my email for 40% off its good til 10/5

Tools & Supplies / Re: Huion A4 Lightpad review
« on: September 19, 2014, 03:01:40 PM »
Thanks for all the reviews of the Huion. I am going to buy one for myself. I couldn't see myself plopping a $100 for a light box, but Huion is much cheaper. :) A question though, I'm undecided if I should get the one with the USB cable or not. Which is better?  :-\

it all depends on where you plan on using hte light pad. I work on my calligraphy at my computer desk so I have no troubles with the usb cable. I plug the usb cable into a usb outlet adapter( like the apple charging cubes)

If you practice at a dining room table or something with no nearby outlets I would choose the on without a usb cable

I just got my Huion light pad. It helps a lot with not having to rule lines for envelopes and thicker paper. Thanks Felicia and everyone else who recommended it. A question - do you use any padding under your guidelines to soften up the writing surface? If so, what do you use?

I use a paper towel under my guide sheet while practicing but for envelopes I use no padding

I really enjoy seeing everyone's personal pics along with the calligraphy. I completely LOVED National Dog day and how everyone had pictures of their fur babies . I, however, am slightly nosey  ::), do not have a calligraphy business and use instagram for social and inspirational purposes.

I think making a post to announce that you are moving you calligraphy or personal stuff to a different account, like Schin did, is a good idea. that allows your followers to make a decision to move over or follow both etc. you can run the risk poor visibility but maybe cross-posting on both accounts for a short period of time to insure your followers are informed.

I used HP Premium Laserjet Paper 32lb bright white that Erica recommends for practice http://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=209.0

and Moon Palace Sumi for the ink mostly because its what I have on hand.

and I used Erica's tutorial for digitizing work found here http://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=28.0

I recently used rubberstampchamp.com and I thought they were fantastic. Erica mentioned them here: http://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=55.msg255#msg255

I placed my order on Fri morning and received my stamp on the following Thurs. I chose the free shipping option but there are faster shipping options as well.

I will take a picture of my stamp when I get home tonight.

Tools & Supplies / Re: Gouache brands and storage?
« on: September 09, 2014, 12:50:06 PM »
at first I mixed a little cup of W&N gouache and capped the container but after a little while the pigment would settle and turn kind of gummy and wouldnt all mix back in when I added additional water. so now I just let it dry on my palette and reconstitute when needed. I didnt add any gum arabicso I don't know if that would make a difference

Tools & Supplies / Re: Trading post

I have 7 Nikko Zebra nibs that I'd like to trade for 7 Nikko Gs instead.

I also have a 15oz bottle of Moon Palace Sumi (still in shrink wrap!) that I'd like to trade for.. anything else really.. maybe for another bottle of ink?

Schin, I could trade 3 Nikko Gs for 3 Zebras, not all 7 though.

Hi Schin, I could trade 4 Nikko Gs for 4 Zebra!

Coffee & Nib-bles / Re: The bad stuff: hand pain!
« on: September 08, 2014, 01:00:24 PM »
I was trying to finish up an large volume envelope job over labor day weekend and the back of my hand started hurting pretty bad, I ended up doing some hot/cold compresses. After about a day or so it stopped hurting but I think from now on I'll spread out the number of envelopes done each day. Also I think working on a lighter grip might help. I no longer have a death grip but I'm still pretty heavy handed
