Tools & Supplies / Re: Lightbox brand/Model suggests

I finally bought some pad puck for my Artograph, slant angle seems to be equivalent to the previous photo.

Some people may still prefer working flat, but If you never give it a try, do put some books or something under your lightpad, this is DEFINITELY easier with a slant =)

Letter Pixels / Re: Mac vs. PC for design work
« on: February 11, 2014, 10:02:03 PM »
Both have Adobe Creative Cloud softwares so for design it's similar (you also got other tools like Gimp or Inkscape on both platforms).

I work on Mac (macbook air + thunderbolt screen) but it can be expensive. If the price is important for you, go for a PC. If you want something more stable (no viruses on mac) and you're not afraid about prices, definitely go for a mac. The main thing is to plug some external screen (which doesn't necessarily need to be a thunderbolt, other brands works on Mac too, it's just about cable connection) so you can have a big view of your workspace. 13" and 15" laptops are a bit small for design in my humble (even if you can do it anyway, I'm talking about being confortable).

As a professional web designer I can say that in a way, computer's brand is not that much important, it's more about how you use it.

I hope it helps ;)

I can understand it's a bit expensive, for me it is. Anyway since 3 days, I see my writing really improved. Being confortable is a main point in my humble so we can completely focus on our letters.

Your suggest is good, the box make a lot of light and it can be too much for the eyes during hours of practice. Great tip.

Will post something (in the good part of the forum this time;) ) once I get a "not-so-bad" quote =)

Edit: Roseann, thanks for the suggest too =)

Thanks so much Mary Lou, this is definitely what I understood a few days ago. Had to "learn" again to write letters in this position but I'm felling better and in the good way now.

Really appreciate to have your feedback (also, very nice writing!!), long life to #Flourishforum =)

Totally agree, this uppercase "e" is gorgeous and what you accomplished with the end of the last "r" looks really tricky. Really inspiring!

I just received the beast! Thanks a lot for your help, looks like it works really good. I'm happy to have orderer a 12" x 17" as it's more easy to turn the paper on the pad without entirely moving it.

I'm pretty sure my writting will improve with this new tool as I can now get a confortable position to write copperplate. Before I was doing something tricky with a very small glass table and a light..

Here is a little preview of the Artograph (model is A940 in case some of you are interested) :

I'll try to put a book under the top of the lightbox, just to check if it's better with a slant like suggested @Erica.

That's when it's probably a good idea to shut off the computer/app/browser/whatever and just go do some alphabet drills!

True talk. =)

Wow, that's so crazy, thanks a lot for the link Nora. I received some pentel brush yesterday, I can figure out how great is his dexterity.. really crazy.

Edit: and also, thanks a lot for your encouragement =)

So nice Nora! I love your writing, you're talented. I'm actually thinking about buying a namiki falkon with an extra fine nib, and maybe some additional flex. I talked with Christina from she gave me some advices about the choice, but still thinking about it.
