Hi David,

I thought I may have posted it a little late to arrive in time.  Crazy thing is, my son who has the same birthday (that’s how I remembered) and lives a few streets away from me didn’t get his birthday cards from me as we when into lockdown the day before.

Looks like that potato served you well.  I didn't know you could use them to clean nibs, I might give that a try.

I think this would be down to personal preference.

I use my dining table and my paper is flat, I did try with an angled drawing board, but preferred to be flat.

I have found with calligraphy that nothing is one size fits all, it a matter of trial and error, findng what suits you best.

Happy Belated Birthday

I don't know which is worse, you getting no cards or you thinking at 54 your irrelevant.  I would also love to send you a belated card, please dm me, and next year I will make sure you receive at least one card, I can't forget the date as this is also my sons birthday.

@KacyBG

Yes, apparently so, all buried in Birmingham (UK).  I am still looking hoping to find a box, or I may get lucky again and find some in a mixed bag.

I'm also looking for the William Mitchell #0514, which Andrew suggested, there are a few mixed bags on EBay at the moment which I may buy, just to try our different nibs.

@AAAndrew

Yes, you are so right, I find myself looking and buying things I don't necessarily need, but can't resist as they look so nice, although I have said I won't collect thing I can't use sadly this went by the by months ago.

What a gem of a bag you got, I suppose it a one time only find.

I have looked for the nib you suggested noting available yet, but I'm sure some will turn up.  I'm not holding out much hope for the Queen nib, I checked the history Hinks Wells and Co, and that nib is older than me.

Apparently, when the company closed they threw millions of nibs in to landfill, I may have to get my shovel out lol.

I also looked at you website, very interesting, some fascinating facts on there.

Thank you Andrew, I will have a look for them.  I tend to stick to what I know will work for me, but getting a mixed bag of nibs has broadened my horizons and I want to try with different nibs.

@AAAndrew

I have attached a photo of the nib, albeit not a very good one.

I have scoured the Internet and have come up with nothing, but I am hoping I can find some, it's a very nice nib.

Can anyone help with finding a certain nib.

It's a Hink and Wells Co nib.  Queen Pen 2586. I have searched but I can't find any.  I know there are a few nib collectors here and was hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

I have attached a photo of the box, I would really appreciate any help finding some.

Thanks

Oh Debi you do make me laugh, you photo really tickled me.  The pen holder is brilliant, what a great idea even if it is the weirdest thing I have seen at least it is unique.  I may try that to get the shape I need.

On a seperate note, I watched the video yesterday of Chris fixing your pen was good to see it being done, the end result is brilliant, that guy is a genius.

Take care

@mikecharli

The wood dimensions I used were a little small, 16mm x 16mm x120

The length was fine, but I would definitely use a wider piece next time, say 20mm x20mm, leaving room for error.

The pen was made on a whim really, I was bored so tried it, next time I would do a little more prep
and research.

Good luck and please post if you make one.
