Writing on handmade paper
« on: October 30, 2017, 12:55:44 PM »
First time poster here! I received a gift of some beautiful handmade papers and I'm finding them a little more difficult to write on, the nib seems to catch in the fibers. I'm using a Zebra G nib. Is this something that will just require more work? Take a little longer?

I found these tips of Younghae / Logos Calligraphy about writing on handmade paper very helpful:

Those are excellent tips. I would also add one extra, make sure you try out your ink on a scrap first. Handmade paper can vary so much in its ability to handle liquid ink. And the light touch is extremely important.

Oh, and one more. You have to be extra, super, mega careful about paper fibers being picked up by your nib. Check quite often to ensure you don't get an extra line or two added by a paintbrush of stray fibers caught in the tines.
