Online workshops?
« on: June 22, 2016, 01:56:51 PM »
Hey guys. Was kind of wondering if anyone knows of or would host an online workshop using skype or something like that? I'd love to do a workshop but getting out is often a problem because of hubby's health.

Harvest Crittenden and Connie Chen do online courses.  Connie does Skype.  I don't know if Harvest has any more this year, nor do I know if she will teach what you'd like to learn, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

Also, check out the you tube channel of the lovely Schin.

Try the link on her FF profile:  http://theflourishforum.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=52

When you get to her youtube page, choose videos

Thanks so much for the shoutout Evan... the correct link should be here:
youtube.com /user/ OpenInkStand/videos

Though let me first say that my videos is a silly collection of things I've decided to record and in no way replaces a proper workshop.

I have taken Harvest's class and thoroughly recommend it. https://www.calligraphy.org/ also has some very good online classes.

Thanks Schin :) weirdly the link isn't wanting to work. I will maybe try Chrome later instead of edge browser and see if that's the problem. Don't even know why I'm using edge in the first place, it's not great for stability.

Thanks for the links and recommendations :) much appreciated :)

Alternative view: Schin's YouTube channel contains the superb Pointed Pen 101 series of videos which answer just about every question worth asking on the subject; a host of writing demonstrations; objective assessments of nibs and inks, and the fountain pen review against which all others ought to be judged and found sadly wanting.  (I refer to the only Namiki Falcon review made by someone with serious writing skills and more sense than money).  No, it won't replace a workshop, but it's an excellent resource which everybody should have a look at.

Sorry Schin - I'm not setting out to make you blush.  ;)

Karen, When you get to Schin's Youtube page, look on the right to find a list of other pointed pen videos.  & some, by the way, are posted by FF members.
