One book referencing another.  I am just following the trail of delicious bread crumbs.

Here's another ... you like knots?

So good! Spent half a day just on the first 10 pages.  Now realizing, I am not even fond of unical, but here I am looking , drooling, convexing over unical, art , shinny pictures, illustration,....  The book of Kelly.  After this I think I have to look for the Book of Durrow, and the Book of Hour

If you like books, you're going to love this series of courses from Harvard: https://courses.edx.org/courses/course-v1:HarvardX+HUM1.1x+3T2015/30f5f189f07e43309a6b2f1ac42130c3/ - they're all about medieval manuscripts! I'm doing HUM 1.1 and it's gorgeous - they go through so many of the books they have in the library at Harvard, and the best part is that as they discuss each book they link to a super high resolution version of it so you will discover many, many fascinating medieval manuscripts which are great for self-study.

Tools of an artist!  Application of this tool - the broad edged pen!  Not much on penmanship!

Yes, I have the Drogin book and found it a thoroughly enjoyable read.  The paleographic material is a little idiosyncratic by recent standards, but it's still one of the best single-volume resources on the subject and worth having for the manuscript facsimiles alone, many of which haven't been digitised yet.

Yes. I agree, just diving in for the first 10 pages.

Another book of consideration was Edward Johnston: A book of sample scripts.  Any thoughts on this before I make the purchase?

I borrowed A Book of Sample Scripts from my local library recently.  It's only a slim volume (31pp) and covers six styles: foundational; "black Italic"; "small Roman"; modern full and half uncials, and Roman caps; there's also a page of Greek and a sprinkling of versals.  There's no instructional material, just examples from the Book of David.  As you'd expect the layouts are particularly striking.

I wouldn't hesitate to snap up a copy at a sensible price: it's a very attractive book and I'm sure you'd enjoy it.
