Spencerian Capital Variations Exemplars
« on: October 24, 2014, 10:32:04 PM »
I found this rare book on IAMPETH.com full of wonderful variations of capitals, "New Spencerian Compendium", Spencerian Authors, 1879. The link to the book is here

http://www.iampeth.com/books/spencerian_compendium/compendium_index.php

It has a lot of reading, but half way through there is the capital variations. I think I counted 19 R's. Great practice for you Spences and OP's out there.

IAMPETH's Rare books are my new favorite place to be on the web.

The Italian Script letters are so amazing.

Holly Moly, Amy!  Thanks for sharing!  I get lost in Iampeth and don't seem to get very deep into the site.  Wish their navigation was better.

This is worth printing!  What an amazing bit of inspiration.  Thanks again.

I totally agree Debbie. I get rather frustrated trying to find my way around, then I just go browse instagram instead lol!

That is wonderful, thanks for sharing this Amy!
I didn't take Harvest's online Spence class, but I have fun trying the OP variations in more shaded Engrosser style ;) a kind of mess!

Totally agree with Debbie and Elsa, I get frustrated by the hard navigation on the Iampeth site... if you consider that I don't speak English as a native language, that can get even more frustrating!  :'(

I would love to totally redesign IAMPETH. It needs some love. Just bookmark the rare books section.

I sort of have the hang of the IAMPETH site now ... took some practice though, like getting to know an old building.  :)

Recently, someone very kindly gave me a printout of this book, and I agree that it's a exceptionally useful resource.  My other main references for exemplars are, in order of frequency of use, Bloser, Jones and Zaner: all called Lessons in Ornamental Penmanship and available on the Rare Books page.

IAMPETH changed their website.

Crikey.  Just had a look and can't find anything, but it's clearly in a transitional state right now.

Roseann: anything in particular you're looking for?

They are under the "lessons" menu. I don't know which one, but here is a page with a bunch of them.

The page is still ugly as hell but it's awesome that they're organising it better now! Getting all those resources in order, whew, what a task!
