Erica, I'm in Bath, roughly between Portland and Boothbay. For the most part calligraphy societies in Maine are active in fits and starts. So I don't belong to one. When I was in NY I belonged to the Society of Scribes in the 70's, during the first calligraphy revival. The best workshop I ever went to was on gilding at The Cloisters. In Maine I am familiar with Nancy Leavitt's work. Looking forward to a new exchange!

I'm a New Yorker who has lived in Maine for 30 years. I'm 10 miles from the coast in an area known as Midcoast. Erica should have some idea where I am!  I love calligraphy but have only played around over the years. I have mostly used a broad pen, proficient in Italic, and have done very little formal Copperplate. I love the looser modern scripts and the hand lettering that old ads and chalkboards have inspired. I'd like to get into those styles! I also make handmade books and do some mixed media journaling. A dream life would be to give all this some direction, focus, and give up the day job. Kinda like winning the lottery.  So I'm looking to learn and grow. I would like to send out some mailart. So if there is something like that on the forum please point me in the right direction. I haven't done much exploring here yet!
